And Lying, it's actually less of a Metroid reference and more of a homage to a not-very-well-known webcomic, which is, incidentally, a metroid webcomic.

Metamagic is extremely limited during this time period, so we settled for greatly more powerful and more various spells. Skrew fireball, we have Plasma!
And after talking with one of my friends who's more familiar with DnD, we've determined the Tau Pulse Rifle does 6d6 Energy damage, so its not a weak weapon.
(Please note that I am not joking)
