Virhan, you can recognize, more or less, what the item is. It is custom-made, so you don't understand how it works, but it appears to be a continual daylight, with some unknown method of turning it off. The bag would most likely smother the light as well.

Virhan looked inquisitively at the orb, wound temporarily forgotten. He picks up the orb, feels it a little bit, and mutters a few words. Maybe he could figure out how it worked...
Inspecting the marble closely, you manage to determine a few things about it, but not how to operate it. It has multiple settings, but you aren't sure how many or what they are. It changes between them with a command word, although it's outward appearance gives no clues as to what it might be.

All six of the men lie unconscious, although their wounds look pretty painful in places. As to searching them, other than the rings and larger objects, and the simple gear, you find 24 gp between them. Also, the gnome has a small leather pouch in his pocket, which is tied and closed at the top. It looks similar to the one under the marble. It feels as if there is something small inside of it, probably about the same size as the marble, in fact, although it is pointy in places.

There is little to be found other than the objects already observed. Just a parrot in a cage, an unlabeled but marked small crate, a table of shipping papers and a map, and their assorted personal effects.

As you open the crate, your hand brushes over the seal of the black axe and snake, and it suddenly fades away and is replaced by a new symbol: the golden sun and sword of the human kingdom. The box appears to be full of rations, at least on top.

Sitting inside the bag is a small black gemstone. It's two ends are pointed, a little less than an inch across the long way and a little less than half an inch sideways. It glimmers internally somehow and you feel slightly drawn to it.
