Re: Arena Tournament, Round 38: Chile V vs Mike C Hammer
Aww crap, you're right. I forgot that.
There is one mistake though. Off-handed weapons get half strength bonus to damage. However, you scored hits with your primary for 12 and your tail for 5, that's more than enough to drop me. VERY impressive build, especially the Pounce alternate class feature. Good job.
edit: wait, this is the next round so technically I haven't move this round and I can take a 5' step, so my move was legal, continue

For every effect you generate, a round is counted from the start of your action to the start of your next. This includes things such as when saves are rolled, when damage is applied (for example, sleep-smoke and entangling ectoplasm), when summoned creatures appear and disappear, when effects change, and the like.
The actual round is pretty much used only as an abstract, a sorta framework for everyone's turns to go in. There are a couple of exceptions, but, for the vast majority of actions and effects, "a round" is used to mean from the start of one action to the start of the next.
Re: Arena Tournament, Round 38: Chile V vs Mike C Hammer
In round 5, my readied action goes off. As part of my readied action, I can take a 5' step as part of my action if I haven't moved in that round. I haven't moved in round 5, therefor, I can take a 5' step. That's what it says, and it makes sense that way too. I'll explain.
My initiative count moves to directly before Mike in round 5 and takes up my action for that round. My next turn doesn't come until round 6.
As it plays out, I moved using a move action in round 4.
I moved using a 5' step in round 5, no other movement that round.
I'll get to move again if I want in round 6.
If initiative were the other way around it still makes sense.
Let's say I went first in round 4 and Mike's action is in the bottom of 4.
Now, I use a move action in round 4, and my standard action triggers as well in round 4 so I can't take a 5'. One movement in round 4.
In round 5 I can move again.
In round 6 I can move again.
In rounds 4-6, I get three move action. I'm already at a disadvantage because as initiative sits, I am limited to a 5'step in round 5. Taking that away to perpetuate the thought of 'abstract' rounds doesn't fix the imbalance, it makes it worse.
