Soren looks grave "It is true. I followed a lead here, but it has borne no fruit, I fear. So I am left where I once was. Let us retire to a more private place where we may speak in secret, then." He looks at Kamiel, expectantly.
@Minstrel Wyrm
Spoiler
Probably Sir Soren would be the formal way to address him, but as the two of them have struck up a friendship, calling him Soren would not be seen as inappropriate, I think.

Kamiel nods and begins in earnest to look for a more private place.
"What lead has that been, Soren?" he asks on the way.
@ Iron Mongler:
Spoiler
What places would suggest themselves for such a conversation? If there are any quiet alcoves or something in the library, Kamiel might prefer that. Or is there something better suited?

All right, then "Soren" it is! ... as Kamiel already has given away, now that I read the stuff above again. Ahem.

"Greetings Lord Mayor," Marsh charmingly says, "I'm delighted I was able to meet with you tonight. I've been looking forward to it. As a servant-daughter of the LeBlanche family, meeting with a real politician is simply thrilling. I strive to become involved in the body politick as well, and talking to the alpha male of Sharn himself..." She leaves the statement hanging, as though it was all she had to say.
"I believe we can discuss politics of...that nature after we eat, Miss Leblanche." He motions to the chair once more, not seeming too annoyed yet.

Konnor turns and sees that the two people speaking are gnomes, seemingly tourists.

Kamiel and Soren, the Commons atop Dalannan Tower are usually nice and quiet around this time of evening.
While waiting for an answer to his question, Kamiel starts to lead the way to the Dalannan Tower Commons.
* * *
When the two finally reach the open-air plaza atop Dalannan Tower, Kamiel indicates a quiet spot near the edge. The scent of thrakel spice mingles with other delicious scents wafting over from the vendour carts in the plaza, and the view of the neighbouring towers and the lower reaches of Sharn is nothing but spectacular. But the beauty of the area seems lost on the warforged, who takes a look-around and then settles his gaze upon Soren.
"A dangerous weapon prototype has been stolen," he quietly begins. "Not long ago, a representative of House Cannith addressed the public in one of the lecture halls, looking for people of an adventurous bent to assist in the recovery of the prototype ..."
Kamiel goes on, explaining what had happened in the lecture hall. He makes sure to accurately recount Menya d'Cannith's appeal, as well as her answers to the questions that had been posed. Then he waits for the Thrane to speak ...

What a useful link! Maybe I should search their homepage more often for such treasures ...

Marsh realizes that a nice way to chit-chat would be to bring up the Cyre refugees within Sharn, who are constantly pressured to pay funds to restore their old kingdom yet not given many privileges.
---
Konnor sees nothing unusual.
Spoiler
Yes you're still on the skycoach.
---
Kamiel and Thrane find there's not many people around in the Commons.
"So I hear the Cyre refugees have been causing trouble lately." Marsh says, "What's that all about? They seem to feel really entitled. They should be glad to be staying here at all I feel."
Hoping to catch the eye of the two gnomes, Konnor continues.
"My apologies for the interruption, but... I couldn't help overhearing your comment a moment ago. Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Randos d'Cannith, and I'm part of a special commission from my house to investigate the recent lapse in security. I would very much appreciate getting the entire story of your involvement with this, including your impressions of the project and the people involved - even secondhand information would be helpful." Konnor gives them a pleasant smile. "If you have the time, of course."

Konnor is making this up, of course.
Bluff Check: 6 + 4 = 10
Nuts. Konnor *can* provide a circumstance bonus, if need be...

"The refugees have caused trouble for us recently, that's certainly true. They want to form New Cyre and claim some new Khorvaire lands to do so, the fools.
---
One of the Gnomes laughs at your claim, right in your face. "I'm going to give you one warning, liar. If you ever try to dupe us again like this, we'll make sure you take up residence in the Lower Quarters of Sharn with a really QUICK trip, if you get what we mean.
"Interesting. What makes them feel like they deserve better treatment than any other refugees? And what do you plan to do about it milord? I'd be very interested in hearing about it. This situation does sound so intriguing." She charmingly asks.
The Lord Mayor begins, but is interrupted by the waiter, a sharply dressed human. He makes an order and awaits for you to do the same.
---
The gnome seems startled by what you show him and your threat, and backs down. Everyone on the skycoach (including the Warforged) seem to be looking at this spectacle.
The gnome grumbles to himself, "Lousy Cannith folk always needing to hide their identities 24/7..."

Konnor snorts amusedly at the gnome's remark. You have no idea... Still in his newly minted "tough guy investigator" persona, he turns and looks around the skycoach, saying as he does so:
"Alright, folks, show's over... just a little misunderstanding."
Konnor takes a seat near (or more preferably, across from) the gnomes. "Glad you decided to be reasonable - this won't take much of your time, and I'll even pay for your fare here, courtesy of the House - but we probably shouldn't have this discussion on the skycoach, hmmm?."

Marsh sips a bit of wine herself, before cutting delicately into her meat.
"I'm not altogether fond of the Church of the Silver Flame running things there. I think a ruling power should be singular, straightforward, stalwart but flexible, unclouded by supernatural notions. Like yourself, Lord Mayor. But they have very good steak, I must say." She giggles lightly, taking a careful bite of food, wiping her mouth gently after.
That sounds like an entirely too cliche place to get killed.
"I tend to find that that sort of place is a bit less private than you might expect - and in all the wrong ways. How about the tavern nearest your stop?" Konnor indicates the skycoach with a gesture.

"It's easy to see why the Leblanche family is so popular just by speaking to you, it seems." He looks to be politely speaking to you at this point, and you can easily gauge him as becoming bored.
---
"Hm, sure. Won't end up mattering in the end." The gnome says, shuffling in his seat nervously.
Come on, work up the charm, I have to snare him...
"Thank you, Lord. It does mean quite something coming from a man of your stature." She says. Feeling adventurous, knowing that something has to happen soon, she puts her hands on his, and smiles slyly. "How has your own popularity been lately, milord?"

Konnor notices the ominous wording but decides not to comment. There's caution, and then there's paranoia. There's no way he could have set up a trap at every location I could have picked. Maybe he doesn't have anything up his sleeve at all, and that phrase has no subtext in gnomish...
Konnor will then wait for the ride to conclude. He will pay his additional fare with no fuss if the gnomes' stop is farther away than his.

"Would you like to accompany me to the hotel I'm staying at? Maybe let me pay for a room for you yourself? It'd be dangerous for a young girl to walk home alone..." He says confidently, mesmerized by your voice.
Konnor will head to the tavern too. Inside, he's going to try for a corner booth, or a table near the door, whichever is easier to get. He'll order a decent beer and sit down, scooting out a chair with his foot for the gnome.

What happened to the other gnome?

Konnor and the gnome walk in the Dancing Shadows district to a tavern. Tourists, travelers, and merchants fill the streets of this enormous district. Inns and taverns stretch as far as the eye can see. The quality is not exceptional, but there is no shortage of places to stay.
You enter a nonremarkable taven, and the gnome sits beside you wherever you go.
"So you want to hear of how I'm involved with D'Cannith's weapon, do you? Apologies for my companion's rude behavior in the skycoach by the way, but he doesn't speak much."
Spoiler
I'll be editing this tomorrow so that I can include what actually happens, but the other gnome decided to stay on the skycoach, declining to speak. Sorry for not mentioning.
Spoiler
I edited an earlier post because the Deathsgate Guild is actually in the Deathsgate District, not Dancing Shadows, though the two are close and in the same Ward.

The Lord Mayor pays for both meals when the maitre stops by again, and stands up when you finish. "Let's be off then." He says, holding out a hand to you.
