Aliam passes it over... "No problem whatsoever, translate and read it aloud if you could, it might give us clues as to these bodies, or the silvery stuff... and so one."

Roughly translated, Jamian can read short notes in archaic handwriting. The author, presumably Zhengyi, seems to have been trying to breed a specific type of creature which they reference only as "SM". Phrases such as, " Still can't find the gene for the wings," and "went back to using humans," jump out at you. You also see "Must get another specimen next time I visit Grimnebulin. Towards the back, the author seems to have had some success. "Wings are more potent but still can't seem to separate from the SM's other traits. It shows no change in appetitie or diet. If can breed out nightmares, May be able to locate wing gene." Here the text ends.

After Jamian reads some of the text aloud (if only because I say so XD) the dragonborn strokes the scales under his jaw for a moment as though he had a beard or stately goatee, "What is this... Grimnebulin? The breeding of strange things with humans is horrid enough, but if the goal was finding a single trait that could lead to foul places. Building a creature of ultimate power..."

Aliam frowns, "I wonder if..." He looks at the dead humans, "Could he have bred something that lives inside humans... gestates and comes out the mouth?" He looks at the quicksilver box with the dark item inside and shudders, "I don't think we should take that thing with us."
He moves back over to the door, "Let's check the last door at the end of this corridor."

Jamian's second inspection yields little more. The mouths show no signs of something clawing its way out, nor are there signs of struggle or restraint. almost as if the creatures starved to death in awe.

The savage takes one last look around the room, shuddering slightly as his eyes pass the corpses before half-walking half-prowling after Sebastian into the next room.

Aliam finds nothing on the door although Sebastian senses a presence via his voidsense. The emenations come from the other side of the door, about ten feet up.

The dragonborn pauses, leaning forward as the scales across his entire skull seems to twitch. He sniffs slightly and leans over to Aliam to whisper, "Other side, ten feet up. Don't know what it is, but something is waiting." He does the same for the Savage.

He begins gathering up strength, drawing in breath to greatly alter the power within him as he prepares to release a furious blast of elemental power in case there are hostilities.
((Not technically a readied action. >.>))

The Savage scans the ceiling, one paw on the ground and kukri in both, balancing halfway between human and animal. He seems slightly twitching, with a massive toothed grin on his face at the prospect of another foe.

With the power of flight afforded to him and his senses brimming with a mystical sight and a sixth sense he moves forward and into the empty space. From his enchanted bag he slips a wand as he moves, ready to illuminate any invisible foes.

Perplexed, the man rises higher into the air to examine the ceiling and expend his mystical sight to determine if the shaft might be some form of wondrous architecture. If he cannot see the botton of the shaft and the above fails he will remove a marble from a bag within his enchanted pack and drop it, listening for sounds.

Knowledges!
Arcana: (1d20+1)[13]
Architecture: (1d20+1)[10]
Dungeoneering: (1d20+1)[15]
If the effect is not an ongoing spell and is something akin to Wondrous Architecture from the Stronghold Builder's Guide then my Identify should work.
I forgot to pick up Shriekers... dammit. >.< Alchemical item that has a -10 DC listen check to hear it. Meh. I guess Aliam will have to make a listen check on my marble, if I even get that far.

With a low growl he replaced the wand in his pack and pulls forth a slender rod with a crystal at one end. With a swift motion he smacks it against his thigh and it begins giving off bright light. Thereafter he drops it down the shaft and watches it fall as he returns to the others. He growls to the others, "Looks like the roof moves. Some sort of transmutation is altering the shaft, but I'm not sure what it is."

He gives an elaborate shrug, "It retracts somehow, but I'm no expert on architecture or engineering. And don't expect me to carry you up there to look at it either."

After a few seconds, the ceiling of the shaft slides open although you see nothing. Then Aliam catches a glimpse out of the corner of his eye of something invisible moving downwards.

The dragonborn floats back out over the apparent endless blackness, the same wand retrieved from his pack. With his Voidsense he should easily be able to pinpoint the creature and his wand will easily allow him to illuminate it. He calls out, "Show yourself!"
Spoiler
What is the radius on the shaft?
Use Magic Device (1d20)[12] Didn't have my sheet handy, but it decided to come up right after I posted. +14 to the modifier. DC 20 to activate a wand. Faerie Fire if I pinpoint the invisible thing.

The shaft is about fifteen feet to a side, Sebastian sends a stream of purple lights downward which align along the perimeter of the shaft, continuing downward at a slow pace.
