Zeal's Evil Campaign

[Ascension]

When Horace has finished indulging his base desires, he turns to the devilish newcomer.

"I'm sorry you had to bear witness to such uncivilized behavior, milady," he says with a bow.

"Here, here is my copy of the contract."

He quickly produces the document from a pocket in some vaguely described location.

[Virgo]

Andora looks at the contract and, as long as it's primarily the same, decides that one copy will do. She gratefully hands it back to Horace and inclines her head.

"Thank you, Horace." She points at the gnome. "And you're... Wrackspurt. Yes. Good."

Looking at the the manor before them, she takes her newly-made copy of the contract and skims it. "No, it looks as if you're not obligated... Can I prevail on you to keep from killing DeFoe, or would that be a lost cause? The deepest evil, remember, has method behind it, which makes it all the more dangerous."

[Ascension]

Horace laughs.

"Milady, the best Evil may come through subtlety, but not the best Death. Corruption, oppression... these things do not interest me. Only cries of pain. I have, however, indulged myself once tonight, so I suppose I could refrain from harming DeFoe overmuch... Do your masters mind a broken bone?"

[Virgo]

Amara smirked and acknowledged Horace's point with a wave of her hand.

"I concede the point, Horace. My Lords are most enamored with DeFoe's mind. He as well has great potential. If you must, though, you may use lethal force to accomplish your mission. That ougt to please..." She paused, at a loss for a name.

"Who was your contact?"

[Ascension]

"Maru. Doctor Maru. Human chap. Tall fellow. I think. He looked like he would be. Spent the whole time in his chair, though."

[Virgo]

"Aah, yes. Maru. Shady character. Where's he operating out of these days?"

Wrackspurt kneels down by the corpses and searches them for loot

Wrackspurt finds some money pouches with a reasonable weight to them; there'll be plenty of time to count coins later. Beyond those, the only things of worth are the Halberds, which are substantially larger than he is.

Wrackspurt returns to where everyone else is standng "Why are we all standing around? Lets get that rock!"

[Ascension]

"You're a terrible bureaucrat, mistress," Horace replies with a wink, "Even I am savvy enough to realize you're fishing for information. Is Maru a rival of yours, vying for the affection of your dark masters? Suffice it to say he's in this city. If you want him badly enough, I'm sure you can find him."

Horace turns to the gnome.

"Yes, lets. Hopefully before the lady decides to take offense and disembowels me."

He calls back to her over his shoulder, "Remember, my law-loving lady, I'm potentially worth more to you alive."

[Virgo]

Andora smiled a very pointy but very amused smile as she took to the air.

"Keen, Horace. Very keen. I have no dobut that you'll distinguish yourself, given time. Let's keep our little conference secret 'til next we meet, yes?"

Chuckling slightly, she acknowldged everyone else with a quick glance.

"Best of luck to you all. Maru will give you good work, I have little doubt. I look forward to following your progress."

Tossing her dark hair out of her face, she sped upwards and eastward, and vanished behind the buildings of the city.

"Bloody infernals. No good is going to come of this."

Amana

Amana begins to get up, and checks her wounds. Ah. Not good... "Urgh. Brilliant move, Halfling. I suppose I was just collateral damage in your plan then? And who the hell was she?"

[Ascension]

Horace laughs.

"Plan? That was no plan. That was desperation. It seems to have worked, though."

[SoD]

Amana

"Well, next time, maybe if you don't get desperate? We could've just as easily left, thought it out, then came back and killed them! Your desperation nearly cost my life, and I'm not willing to give that up because you get 'desperate'!" Amana breifly pauses to cough up blood. "And you haven't answered my second question." she adds, as she struggles to her feet.

As she stands unsteadily on her feet, she places her hand on her forehear and mutters "Hoito Kynttilä Haavoittaa." as her eyes breifly flash red, and some of her wounds close themselves.

"A spy from Baator. She acted friendly enough, but devils are always bad news."

[Ascension]

"Who the 'hell'? Cute. Yeah, she was a devil. Not a bad gal, though, as devils go. Maybe she'll drop by again to visit sometime and you can meet her."

[SoD]

Amana

"Baator? Doesn't sound promising. So, gnome. What's your plan now? We need to act quick, otherwise we'll have the guards after us."

[Ascension]

"The guards are dead, no thanks to you. Our devilish friend opened up the way. Now all we have to do is walk right in and deal with DeFoe."

[SoD]

Amana

"Well, thanks to you, I nearly joined them. Let's get this over and done with." and with those words, Amana starts striding towards the house.

The door is white, quite well-made, and decidedly untrapped. The man may be paranoid, but he's not psychotic enough to trap his own front door. It crosses your minds that it could still be rigged with an "Alarm" spell, but that's always an occupational hazard in the "break-and-enter" business.

Amana frowns slightly. "Seems safe. I say we go around the back, and try and find a door there. If we can't, we climb."

[Ascension]

"So let me get this straight, you're telling us not to go through the front door because it seems like it would be safe to go through the front door? When can we go through a door, then, when it tries to kill us?"

Wrackspurt, impatient from all the talking, opens the door softly. His crossbow raised

The door, surprisingly, opens with a quiet creak. The entrance hallway is spartan but refined, with three doors and a staircase as the visible exists, and a side-table with some mail on it as the only notable fixture. The house seems to welcome you silently.

creak We've been told that he's been paranoid about it getting stolen, chances are, he'd set up an alarm system. I'm suprised it didn't cover the front door..." Amana cautiously steps inside, and looks around. "Hmm. No traps? Then lets mo-ah..." she pauses and her brow wrinkles as she concentrates. "Do you hear that?"

The mail is sparse, and mostly fliers. There is an unopened letter from "Seeker Volant Morgan Fosco" though - the title indicates a very high rank in House Aletheia, a rank that is infamous for never speaking to the public. You wonder why someone with powerful connections to one mercenary house would employ guards from the other, but House Aletheia has always been inscrutable.

All the others are solicitations and other uninteresting things.
