I just wanted to know if this game is appropriate for all ages. I know my young daughters will not get the the D&D Jokes but I just don't want to have to explain about 2 dwarves are making love in the dark (Hopefully that OOTS reference is not to obscure). I have allready preordered the game but I wanted to know if I have to wait to find an adult to play the game with or can I day one sit down and play the game with my kids.

Well, those two dwarves are the illustration on the "No Sleep for You" Screw This card. There are some bits of low humor, such as references to http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0102.html . There might be problems with some of the Loot that Belkar harvests. For that matter, some of the Loot and Shtick cards are based on the strips at http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0029.html , http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0020.html , http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0109.html , and http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0025.html .

We put on the box that the game is for ages 12+. This is as much for the complexity of the game as for the content.

Many folks will have no trouble playing the game with children younger than that, but some won't, and it was best to err on the conservative side.

Thanks, I think that will give me clear direction.

And I am glad there is no upper age limit. I am getting older but I still get all the jokes.

Yeah, don't you hate it when a game lists 'Ages 8-16" or "Ages three to eleventy five' ... It just stinks when you're too old for games these days. *;D

You could probably get away with removing the low humour cards; though you probably don't want them playing the backstabing Belkar, so I'd remove him (and loot that only he covets - like kidneys) as well.

Geoff.

I agree that Belkar should be removed when playing with younger kids. Not because of the humor (which will possibly fly over their heads) but because Belkar doesn't have a chance unless he is willing to agressively attack other players. And young kids seem to think it's cheating, or at least unfair when turned on by other players. As a young boy, I'd think collecting ears or kidneys would be gross & cool.

However, I have friends who would love the chance to play Belkar.

I agree with the Belkar stuffs. I played my dad (Elan) and my mother (Haley) as Vaarsuvius for about 3 hours and saw only Belkar's "droolables" as something that may be a little...well, inappropriate would be a good word. When playing with kidlings, I suggest using Elan as a character, definately, because he's just cute, no scary involved. V is good too, and probably Haley and Durkon...and Roy. *snickers* Okay, just not Belkar.
