It was a dark night as the moon hid behind some clouds. Liriel walked down the path alone. Noises could be heard in the woods beside her, but she wasn't afraid. She wasn't afraid of the dark or of the beasts. They were afraid of her.
She came upon her home. Her
new home to be more accurate. She wondered how long it would be before she would have to leave again. Opening the front door, she entered and settled in.
The next morning, rumors had already spread that a witch came in the middle of the night and has moved into the Haunted Shack.
Most of the village ignored her, but some went to go visit her. They never were the same afterwards.
Over the next month, more and more rumors spread.
It was said that she could tame wild beasts. She could turn you into a toad and back. She killed people in the woods behind her home, and used their bodies to cast curses and spells. If you looked her in the eye, there was a good chance your heart would stop beating.
Weird things also started happening over the village. Chickens would mysteriously die in the night, and the body hanged on a tree or impaled into the ground. Their blood was used to write wierd messages and symbols on the wall. Crops were dieing in the middle of summer. The town well had been poisoned from some unknown source.
Most of the town blamed her for it. Finally, the village leaders decided to do something about it.
Late at night, they raised a crowd and headed to her home. They sharpened their pitchforks and lit their torches. The entire village participated. Standing in front of her house, they demanded her to leave.
She refused.
The house was lit and burnt down to the ground.
Two days later, when the ashes cooled, they searched through the ashes. They found a single skeleton in the pile. The village cheered. Now the weird stuff would stop. They were wrong.
Soon people started to go missing in the night, and the rumors of "witchery" spread.
