It does not assume the ability scores of the animal, but instead adds the animal’s physical ability score modifiers to its own ability scores. A lycanthrope also can assume a bipedal hybrid form with prehensile hands and animalistic features. Changing to or from animal or hybrid form is a standard action. A slain lycanthrope reverts to its humanoid form, although it remains dead. Separated body parts retain their animal form, however. Curse of Lycanthropy (Su): Any Large, Huge, or Gargantuan humanoid or giant hit by the weretrex’s bite attack in tyrannosaur or hybrid form must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or contract lycanthropy. Afflicted lycanthropes cannot pass on the curse of lycanthropy. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, the weretrex must hit an opponent of up to one size smaller with its bite attack in tyrannosaur form. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can try to swallow the foe the following round. Swallow Whole: The weretrex can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of up to two sizes smaller by making a successful grapple check when in tyrannosaur shape. The swallowed creature takes 2d8+18 points of bludgeoning damage and 18 points of acid damage per round from the tyrannosaurus’s gizzard. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by using a light slashing or piercing weapon to deal 25 points of damage to the gizzard (AC 13). Once the creature exits, muscular action closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. The weretrex’s gizzard can hold 2 Medium, 8 Small, 32 Tiny, or 128 Diminutive or smaller opponents when in tyrannosaur or hybrid form. He may not return to ogre form if his gizzard is more than half full. Tactics Round-by-Round The weretrex’s tactics are not overly complex, but a bit more refined than those of a natural tyrannosaur. He prefers to attack as a dinosaur, though he is still fairly powerful even in ogre shape. Whatever his form, he will seek to grapple any opponent, using his Improved Grab ability in animal form to inflict terrible damage. He gladly swallows any foe he considers edible, which includes most humanoids. Challenge Rating: The weretrex has a Challenge Rating of 13.
