I like it. Although I do acknowledge that the previous series (despite not being animated as well) was of better quality.

I don't really care for UFR either. I mostly go there for the Zero Punctuation, Shamus's stuff (Stolen Pixels, Experienced Points), and the occasional hilaribad antics on their forums.

This is one of those days when I really can't stand being myself...
By one of those days, of course, I mean my average day.
In need of a hug... :smallfrown:

Re: Thanatos's Tharmturges Present: Tropical, Tipsy, and Typically Random Banter #127
On the spur of the moment I decided to put on the radio (something I rarely use) to listen to Radio 3 (a station I rarely use) at half six this evening.
I completely had no idea why. Except for that Thufir mentioned it twice in less than forty eight hours and I really like Handel's Messiah. Also that Thufir was in it.
It was good. Fantastically good. I was smiling and enjoying it and it sounded amazing. Someone needs to ask him what it was like to get a standing ovation from a packed Royal ALbert Hall.
So, what was it like to get a standing ovation from a packed Royal Albert Hall?
EDIT:
Just read the weirdest thing yet in one of my course books about literary theory. In one of the chapters ('Ghosts') the writers mention a critic called Lacan who said this about Hamlet:
The ghost in Hamlet has to do with the phallus.
In a sense I could sort of understand. But it's also proof that theory is peculiar and that everything really can link back to sex.
I just had to share that because it's so weird.

I dunno, some things people link back to sex are rather... outlandish...
Like the movie Alien. People have all these comparisons, but I just don't see it. How could those monsters be anything related to sex?

Curly: You think that's weird? Two words for you. Freudian. Theory.

The head, the tail, the eggs. Is it necessary to elaborate on that?

Aha! I found it! My favorite scene from my favorite movie, "Hard Streets"
This movie was all the rage in the 70s.

*facepalm*
SHould've explained this bit.
Lacan was French and a 'follower' of Freudian theory. But when I say 'follower' it is more that he expounded and developed Freud's theories further.
I'll abbreviate the paragraph from the book.
Introduction to Literature, Criticism and Theory (3rd ed. (Andrew Bennt and Nick Royle)), p. 134:
"Lacan develops the . . . basic Freudian reading of the play as Oedipal drama: Hamlet cannot take revenge . . . because h is haunted by the sense that what Claudius has done is what he would have wanted to do . . . In Lacan's scandalous and brilliant development of this reading of Hamlet (in a seminar in 1959) the ghost has to do with the phallus. As 'an imaginary object which the child comes to accept as being in the father's possession' (Wright, 1992, 318), the phallus is in a sense the very symbol of paternity. For Lacan, the reason for Hamlet's inability to kill Claudius . . . is that 'one cannot strike the phallus, because the phallus, even the real phallus is a ghost' (Lacan, 1977b, 50 - 1). . . In Lacan's reading , Hamlet's being haunted by his father is an allegory of the nature of the ego."
Freud, as I've long said, is weird; has some interesting things to say, but most have been disproved or shown as something else I can't quite recall.
EDIT: I'd say saomething about the French and their stereotypical portrayal as sex crazed, but it's irrelevant here as it was inspired by an Austrian.
However, Lacan's being French may have contributed to his reading as listed above . . .

That's an interesting theory (about Hamlet)... I don't really think it's true, but it's still interesting.
