This is good, but I think the colours are garish and those tiny, tiny hooves in the last frame are alternately hilarious and spooky.
I think the problem with the colours is too many full, bold, deep colours. Clashes. Take a close look at the actual show ponies - they're really pale shades of blue, purple, orange, green etc on their coats. The manes tend to have fuller colours. Tone down the purple and you'll get a gentler transition.

:smalltongue: They were added on at the last second, probably why it looks off.
And finally, someone has been able to tell me WHY the character looks odd. I couldn't place my finger on it, and everyone I'd asked had given me nebulous, kind of not useful at all answers. I'll try it with a lighter purple; I'm pretty sure she'll look leagues better afterwards.
EDIT: Old vs. New. The outline feels off now, probably because I didn't change it, and may be operating on no sleep for 30some hours eheheh.

Glad to help. Been through a lot of pony designs myself and I've got a decent handle on what makes a good pony colour scheme.

See, that does look much better. I am slightly concerned about the mane but I think that could be fixed with just a different arrangement of the colours than changing the colours themselves. Try some different haircuts!

I would say the eyes are a bit off-putting, but that is pretty much because the reflections are not what is typically seen. And for some reason they remind me of spiders.:smallconfused:

30 minute challenge. The version on the site is actually incomplete because I ran out of time (only had about 20 minutes of a possible 45) so this is a more up-to-date version. I won't call it complete, because I think I'll actually colour this one.
It's Mayor Mare in Princess Leia's slave outfit. The challenge was

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw! Together!
I once considered doing one of those expressions memes for the Ponithid. It didn't get anywhere and things have happened since.
Today I apparently decided to revisit the idea with Robo-Ponithid.
It's...going to take a while, it seems*. But man, oh man.
From the few I have finished so far, Embarrassed Face is Best Face.
*Usually code for; Will never be finished
EDIT -
Continued for a while after all, so here we are; Expressions A through to F of the ABC Expressions Meme, Robo-Ponithid edition.
-
Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw! Together!
I will need to try one of those. Expressions is something I don't really do, and therefore am likely in need of practice drawing.

Day 162:
Didn't really think about the fact I wouldn't have much time to actually do much with this, so its not really in any good state. Just a rough sketch. Time: 30 minutes?

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw! Together!
Well, so far I've gotten about twelve letters further in than I expected to.
Quality varies, but the overall effect of a wall of Robo-Ponithid increasingly makes up for that, for me.

Bahaha, wonderful!
Also, hello again friends! Goodness but I've been gone a while, haven't I? I shall try to repair my shoddy attendance record in future...

I can literally not think of anyone who has said that and gone through with it :smallwink:
Especially when ended in ellipses.

I believe my hiatus started right around the time you began posting, so we sort of passed each other.
The drawings are looking pretty good, you seem to have/be developing facility with line and tone. Are you drawing from a reference?

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw! Together!
This is probably the most concerted effort I've put into something for quite some time.
It is an epic undertaking. First 15 letters done.
Secret note to self; Mushroom ponies?

Those are great, though I think jealousy looks a little more like suspicion. Now you just have to do the rest .

Why thank you. All my best ones are copies as far as I can remember; I'm not terribly good at thinking these things out myself yet. This is the original from yesterday.

Is... Is that a tentacle pony duckface? I have no words.
Also mushroom ponies is a great idea and you should do it right away!

Nothing wrong with that. It takes a very long time to get to the point of constructing things yourself. However, if that's your goal, I would plug this book. A friend of kpenguin's, who studies illustration and animation recommended it to me. It's focused on anatomy-as-form and constructive figure drawing and in my experience so far it's had some great suggestions and guides.

One thing I would suggest is to try and up the contrast in your shadow work. Make sure your darkest darks are really clearly distinct from your lights, and pay a lot of attention to getting the value right around places where high and low values meet.

Perhaps, but it's close enough really. Especially as S is Serious, so I don't need to worry about making Suspicion sufficiently different.

It could be. Robo Ponithid could also be blowing raspberries or whistling. It's wonderfully multi-purpose!
Also, yeah. I was surprised to find no mushroom ponies on a cursory deviantart search, not one little hoofy myconid. I may just have a go.

Just one of many advantages of tentacles.

The only downside to this is that with my background the concept immediately makes me think of phrases like "flabby fungous thing" and "daemon swineherd". But that's just The Rats in the Walls talking, surely.

Yeah, none of those are even remotely appropriate descriptions of Shroom.

Excellent! Looking forward to the full 26. Interested to see what X and Z will be.

Coloured version of Mayor Mare in Leia's slave getup.
And a rule 63 Blueblood.
I WILL get back to finishing the rest of Tiki's suggestions at some point, though I will admit to dreading the urban location one.

Hmm, I seem to have missed this. Could somebody point me to the post?

Also, here's the thing I mentioned. It's my most recent completed thing, trying to focus on values, after working so long with lines.

Well, no progress today due to having things to do and needing to be up early tomorrow, but that should leave me plenty of time to get a few done later on if I'm still awake.

Entirely Selfish Suggestion;
Spoiler
Show
Draw my oc, the Robo-Ponithid, doing something active/meeting another pony for the first time.
Spoiler
Show

Mane is a series of seperate and shortish tentacles, coiled around each other like a braid. Mouth tentacles are in a diamond formation, one at the front, one on each side of the mouth and one under the chin, so to speak. Freckles but no cutie mark.
More Serious Suggestions;
Spoiler
Show
Draw;
An Urban Location touched by magic.
A person who has been hollowed out, a strange entity and/or being is now wearing their body, looking at the world with alien perspective.
A Spirit of Regret.
A sexy Vrock.
The Machine.
A cute robot.
A self-aware Android on the run.
Or none of the above.
They were all asking for suggestions and requests, so I just posted a bunch. I totally didn't expect people to set out to, like, complete the whole list. It's lead to some interesting sketches, though, so it's all good.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw! Together!
And suddenly, the thread moves quickly. :smallannoyed:
Higher contrast eh? I guess I could try it, though working in monochrome makes me want to sort of shy away. Plus it tends to smudge, which I do sometimes use to my advantage, but it can easily obscure details in the darker regions. (And I am always awed by the people who can draw so as to seem like reality, that jug is really well done).
----
Day 165:
Taking on the horrors of the unknown. (Also because I need to throw some ponies in every once in a while). Time: Maybe around an hour.

Turns out I am awake enough to do some. Only just though. Still, managed to not fall asleep in the middle of doing P for Proud. Willl take a break, make some coffee and try the next face. Or, you know, sneak off to play mass effect.

Starswirl faces the Dungeon Dimensions. I like. You have a dynamic subject, even if the pose is fairly still. Well done.
