Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
**Hoping to move things along a bit.**
Verossa grunts a bit as she enters the non-magic area, "Not just you Captain Underpants; I'm not feeling quite right either.
Perhaps we should take a look further along, see if we can find what's causing this."
**Apologies to Marlowe if I butchered Verossa's style of speaking.
Now, lets get this train a moving .**

Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Eleanora cocked an eyebrow at the two.
"Is everything alright? I don't feel strange at all,"
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"I feel... Strange. Like something's pressing in all around me."
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"Hrmm." The dame furrowed her brow. "Perhaps it is just the cave, but I sincerely doubt that to be true. If that that be the case, we should probably move."
With that, Eleanora began to walk deeper into the depths of the cave.

Holding her glaive at the ready, Verossa follows behind Eleanora.

You poke around as you walk along, noticing more scraps on the floor. They origonate from the recesses in the walls. Some impressions from the recesses appear to be in the shape of large humanoid shaped footprints.
As you near the end of the hallway, the clanging sound starts up again.
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"Guys," Halabur whispers, "I see some large footprints... I don't think there are any gnomes around here anymore."
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"Well I think that's obvious Captain Underpants. What with the acient script, the dust and the general dilapitated look of the place."
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"Doh, yes." he says with a sleight blush. "I just meant that whatever got rid of them may be lining here."

Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
[Sorry Malak'ai; guys, the Playground's become EXTREMELY difficult for me to contact on my home connection (like, no connection at all for 5 days). And although I can connect fine on a work computer, we're on full marketing mode right now and I've got no time to do anything there but work]
Verossa walks forward, touching her chin a little in unaccustomed thought (INT 10. What do you expect) "Something leeching the magic-users. Statues-or something, dragged out of place....No clue.
"Ser Dame, with all respect, stay ten feet behind me. My glaive can cover the width of the corridor; but I can't stop everything. Who's got the best eyes?"
Putting actions to words, she moves cautiously down the corridor.

Grunting as he walks through into the hallway, Drayner looks around and sees as some of his companions had a similar effect, he follows silently attempting to think of the cause, and why it wasn't affecting Eleanora, he thinks he's onto something when Verossa says it's leeching the magic users Drayner's eyes pop open momentarily before whispering just loud enough for his companions to hear.
"Does anyone have a dagger or something I may be able to use? I'm not very proficient in the more military weapons, but something simple may be fine" Looking through his possessions he looks back to the group "Otherwise I'm probably going to be limited to swinging an oily-maybe on fire, rag around."

You can also hear the clanging again coming from somewhere ahead of you.
You have heard stories of powerful spellcasters being brought low because of effects that sound similar to what you are expreiencing now, though you do not know the name of the effect.

Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"I can lend you either a dagger, club, or crossbow. Take your pick." Halabur says, realizing just how useless he himself would be if it came to combat. "I fear I am only proficient with the crossbow."
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Eleanora stepped back and allowed Verossa to take the lead.
"Something leeching the magic-users," She muttered, more to herself than anyone else. "I like this not."
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
You come to the end of the hallway and pass through a shattered door.
On the other side is a "T" junction with the left hand passage blocked by rubble from the fallen celing.
The right hand path is clear and leads for another 30' to another door which is open just a crack. The clanging sound seems to be coming from behind it.

Halabur creeps over to the left to see of the fallen ceiling provides any helpful clues or information about how to get out or the nature of these halls.

Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Verossa sloly turns to put herself between the group and the slightly open door, but doesn't advance yet.
"I have javelins on my back, Drayner". she says softly, without taking her eyes off the ominous door. "You should be able to use those, just try to stay at range. Knew I should have brought shortspears".
She waits a little for Drayner to react one way or the other, then;"Ser Dame, please back me up as we approach the door. I'll swing it open with the glaive You should get in first, as you've got the shorter weapon. [and the AC that doesn't depend on dex bonus] Get in there quick and put your back against something. I'll in after you as soon as the doorway is clear. Once we have fighting-room, get back behind me and be ready to take down anything that gets past me. You others, break out the pointy twangy things and cover us from the doorway. Think zulu".

Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Drayner sighs and upon reaching for Halabur's dagger, decides that a weapon that small probably wouldn't work too well for him, instead taking a Javelin off of Verossa "thank you, It seems to be similar to my normal way of fighting anyway... at least I hope so" And Drayner takes up position behind Halabur (who I assume is behind verossa who is behind Eleanora-or will be when the door is opened)

Raif frowns, distractedly.
'I don't think it's exactly a leeching...this place is very strange ...though I'm not sure whether we're witnessing something miraculous or abominable'. Raif mutters. Then he shakes his head as id to clear it.
'We have some weapons taken from the bodies of the Orcs if you'd prefer those Drayner. It looks as though we'll be without magic for a time'.
Raif takes up station by the door, puts the wand away and grips his mace firmly.'
'If you want something more substantial Halabur you're welcome to a flask of my alchemist's fire - I think it should still work'
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Once everyone is in position, Verossa eases the door open. Eleanora rushes through and takes up the watch over the room, quickly followed by Verossa and Raif, allowing Drayner and Halabur to bring up the rear behind a wall of flesh and steel.
The room you've entered is large. The celings higher than the ones in the hallway, the far walls out of sight in shadow.
From the far end you can hear the clanging. It's loud! Inbetween the sound of metal on metal you can hear a voice from the gloom, "I'm not cleaning this lot up you hear me!"

"You're well-insured then?" Verossa says, just loudly enough to be audible over the ceaseless clanging, as she blinks around the room looking for the sources of the voice. "Upon my honour, I am not going to ask "who are you and what is this place?"
She maintains a position in front of the door, covering the approaches to the squishier members of the party.

You can make out the sounds of three objects striking metal. One in a constant rythim, the other two, fainter than the first, coming and going in quick consession with each other with longer pauses between them.
You can't seem to see where the voice, or noises are coming from.
When Verossa's queston pierces into a gap in the clanging, the voice speaks again, "You hear that? Find out what it is. I'll hold this."
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Verossa decides against giving the unknowns more information. "Drayner, if you're still back there; fish the everburning torch out of my haversack and we'll go meet them halfway. Whoever they are, they can see in the dark and they don't go into a frenzy at the first sign of company.
Myself and Ser Dame will lead; Divine Clearsight, back us up. I think Mr Eldritch is the only one with a free hand for the torch. Others follow discretely. You know, weapons drawn all casual-like"
-
Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
"got it, I also left you one javelin just in case you needed it, want me to hold onto it, or just throw it onto the ground or something." Getting out the everburning torch of her pack Drayner waits for a response, a million thoughts running through his head. how to we pick up their allegances... one wrong step in conversation could lead to an unnecessary fight, I doubt that "passing through" would work... we could just say we were curious, hmm but if their violent maybe...

Re: A Thorn In The Hand IC
Raif smiles at 'divine Clearsight' but resists the comment, simply saying
'Aye, I have your back'.
