Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
I am not entirely convinced V has a firm gender identity. Inkyrius looks physically male, but that proves nothing. However, overall, V, to me, seems female. The fact 'she' rooms with Haley, the balance it maintains between the OotStick and the OotScribble, and the sheer level of vengeance V feels 'she' must enact against the ABD. Mama bear is a scary thing, and I think the DarthV arc was a shining example of exactly that.

There was a pretty good theory that V started out as male and the 'confusion' which gave Rich the idea to make the gender ambiguous occured with the 'V-man' reference in Strip 9.
Rich debunked that theory here
Thus, there is now absolutely no evidence towards V's gender at all.

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
I think that V's gender is highly androgynous male. I dunno, I've always imagined that in real life, he would look like Frank-N-Furter from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Other than that, no real reason.

He means he managed to destroy evidence of what his original gender was. (And I'm not calling V girl or boy, just typed his for convenience)

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
V simply always gave me the impression of being female for some reason. I think what cemented that impression for me though were comics like this and this, where the joke (or reference I suppose in the latter case) wouldn't really work if she were male.

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
V's always looked male to me, so I've always presumed that V is male. Although, I've grown less and less certain of this, especially with the new information we've recieved from the Giant on this topic.

They would work if people thought V was female.
Since I'm already posting on this thread, I think that V's Character Sheet got V's alignment and gender switched.

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
He seems to have a very masculine personality (with the ambition, and being away from home a lot, and so on), -ius will always be a masculine ending to me, declensions or no declensions, and, welp, making fun of girly elves by constantly doubting their gender for giggles is much more established than a character actually being gender-ambiguous. I figured on first read-through that V was definitely male and any doubts was just Rich doing an old joke.
However I would LIKE him/her to be a girl, because you don't see many women with that sort of personality, and it would explain his/her thing with Haley, and the Order needs more girls.
I can't quite unsee him/her as male, though.

The career minded female who focuses to much on her career to the neglect of her love has sorta replaced the male version of that in the last ten or so years.

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
Ahh this old debate. I'm surprised we don't have more people saying it's been done.
-
Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
Its not the old debate. Its more a discussion as to why people feel both ways.

Yes, but that isn't exactly a new concept either.
Though, true, this isn't a debate, so tick is likely reacting to the thread he thinks it is :P

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
Oh, well in that case I'll throw in a couple reasons I've always assumed V to be female
-Rooming exclusively with Haley. Ok I know a guy and girl can share a room and not be bumping uglies or one of them at least wanting to but it just feels something a woman is more likely to do.
-The belkar kiss thing. a guy would react more with a smack in the face and jokes about sexual orientation. Her grudge match response felt something a woman is more likely to have done.
-Clothes shopping with roy's GF. Clothes shooping with her for her date with Roy just sounds something a woman is more likely to do.
Granted any of these by themselves are weak. However, to me they show a pattern that suggests to me female.

Corpus begs to differ.

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
I thought V was male since the first strip I read, and still do tend to think that way - I didn't even realise it was ambiguous until it was blatantly stated it was; the first few times a character got confused about V's gender in the comic I thought it was an elf joke.
V just looked male to me. Haley was obviously female, and so I assumed all the others (who did not share that body shape) were male. Once I realised that wasn't necessarily the case, I'd already been thinking V was male for a long time, so it stuck.

Not necessarily.
Latin 4th conjugation nouns end in -us in the nominative, but may be of any gender, e.g. manus, noun, neuter, "hand", the origin of English words such as "manuscript"

Yes. We know. Its -still- a first impression. No matter how many times we discuss that the latin conjugation rules don't apply to Elvish, or rare exceptions within the latin structure, it -won't- change my initial reaction back in 2003. Thats just how time works :P
So far, a lot of you are doing really badly at this part:

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
The SRD uses the following pronouns in its class descriptions:
Fighter: male
Bard: male
Rogue: female
Ranger: male
Cleric: male.
If Rich were assigning genders randomly, the probability that he'd match all of these genders correctly is only 3.125%.
So I calculate there's a 96.875% chance that V also matches the pronoun used in the SRD description of Wizard, which is: female.
(Whaddya mean, "specious"?)

Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
The very first time I read strip one I looked over all the characters(like I do with most comics), and when I got to V, my mind just clicked to "male". I don't know what it is. Probably the "us" at the end of his name.(I view Inkyrius and Aarindarius as men, too) Plus, he just looks more masculine to me, especially with the ponytail.
-
Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
I tend to view wizards and offensive casters as male, probably because that is my own preference. I also first read V's response to the Boots of Speed anecdote as sarcasm and always saw Haley as the token female.

No, s/he was debating whether Latin nouns ending in -us could be feminine.
-
Re: WHY do you think V is a guy or girl?
V's a girl, mostly cause I don't see Haley rooming with her if she were a guy and the way she acts isn't masculine to me, and the part where she kills all that dragon children :smalleek: that screams "MOTHER" to me, cause no one understands more how painful it is to lose a child than a mother- so in revenge she inflicts that pain upon the one who tried to kill her children.

You're theory is torpedoed by the fact that Roy was originally the party Wizard.
He only became the fighter because Giant needed a know-it-all for the first comic and didnt want roy to be both that and the strait man

Yeah, I object to that. The entire idea that the mother is a better or more caring parent is without merit and an insult to any caring father out there.

I find it somewhat amusing just how many people can't handle a thread where they aren't supposed to pick apart other people's posts :P

Granted. I'm not trying to say that she's wrong for thinking that, however. In fact I vote Girl as well. I just dislike this attitude that showing serious affection or fear for ones offspring is a feminine trait. That one must be female to act in an irrational and violent way in defense is especially abhorrent to me. It seems condescending towards Women and insulting to Men.
