"This doesn't look like murderous rage..."
It's easy to tell he's not kidding.
I can understand the rage. You've seen that firsthand. But after the rage ebbs, once there's nothing left to direct it toward. The emptiness, the feeling of loss. To put it in techie terms for a nerd like you, a part necessary for your optimal operation is gone, and there is no way to replace it. That's what these wee ones are going through. Especially the brutalized one there whose head I was just rummaging around inside. It's been through the ringer.
"Maybe I need to rephrase this. I am a Fuschian streetrat. I ended up in the most violent gang, and when after over a decade of listening to a man who thinks a steelix through an occupied house is a way of settling an argument I finally questioned things for the first time, I got my judged arm stuck in a klingklang. I don't get what you mean by after. I do not have the right frame of reference to understand, and have Taylor looking into help on that. I was broken by others, and am still working on fixing myself. So please, no metaphors, just actions."
He looks strangely panicked. Like he really wants to do this right, but is pretty sure he's doing something wrong as he holds the pikachu close.
"What do I do after hugging? Please. Just want a walkthrough."
Paul shrugs.
Eh, I tried. Not hard, but about as much as I wanna. Let's rescue these rodents, do whatever we're doing with King's followers, and get back to town. Certain members of this group may mock my penchant for trainer battles, but it pays the bills. Now that I'm actually paying my bills again.
"Anything non-violent is good. Petting, that sort of thing. Peaceful actions. Like this." Seeing that the Pikachu aren't lashing out, she picks up one of the treated ones and holds it close to her, patting its back and holding it like a small child. "Shh, it's going to be okay."
Hesitatingly, he brings a hand up and mimics Arte.
"It's...it's going to be okay?"
He glances at Sparky, who nods. Encouraged, he goes on.
"It's going to be okay, little ones. We're here."
The three look at you, then back at each other, then back to you once more. They slowly nod in unison, still looking pretty upset.
The Pikachu extends its little arms, hugging you back, its small frame shaking as it burries its head in your shirt.
The Pikachu you have decided take care of slides in closer, holding onto you tightly. It seems glad that you're there.
The Pikachu stops shaking, steps back, and looks at you, eyes looking up to you longingly.
Encouraged, Gerald pats the little mouse's head, pulling out a pokeball and putting it on the ground between them.
"If you wish, little one."
He lets the pikachu decide.

Artemis pulls a great ball out of her bag. If you go in this, I can take you to a Center and get you healed. We'll keep you all safe and together. Promise. She gives the Pikachu a hug and presses the ball to its back.

Artemis jumps back as the ball cracks open. Must not have taken the electricity from the Pikachu very well. Probably defective. She picks the Pikachu back up, trying to keep it calm. "Hey Gerald, I think this ball was defective. Think you could fix it and try it? You seem to have a way with catching things." She tosses him the two great ball halves to fix later, and a regular one for right now.
Gerald catches them without looking and takes a quick look inside.
[roll0]+3, forgot to add my Int score too.
"Just a misaligned circuit."
He clicks it out and puts a new one in, aligning it properly this time.
He offers the great ball to the pikachu.
"Still with Artemis. Please give her a shot?"

He watches it break again.
"This ball may just be completely defective."
Romeo picks up his little one.
'Good. I'll keep you safe. And Elly will too. If she could beat up those scythers, she should be able to protect you from anything.'

The Pikachu steps forward, taps the Pokeball, and is absorbed inside.
A few seconds later it glows yellow, signifying a catch.
SpoilerLonely Level 8 Pikachu, Static, -8 of its max HP. Knows Pichu and Pikachu moves up to level 8.
The Pikachu steps forward, taps the Pokeball, and is absorbed inside.
Only to have the ball burst open seconds later, a very confused Pikachu looking at the two halves. It looks up at you with wide eyes, gesturing for you to get another ball.
Here, let's try a different one. She places a great ball on the ground for the Pikachu to press itself.

'Okay, I'll try again.' He pulls out another ball.

ANOTHER DUD! She was going to kill the man who gave her these dud Great Balls back in Castelia. No wonder they get them for free after graduation: They were crap! She tosses the last three on the ground for the Pikachu to try. Could always fix them up later, or sell them for something better like an Ultraball or two.

Once again the Pikachu activate the balls and, once again, they fail.
For both of you the second ball activates and works, catching the rodents.
SpoilerEs: Level 8 Adamant Pikachu, Cute Charm. Same moves as the other, full health.
Esh: Level 8 Bold Pikachu, Static. Same moves as the other, full health.
Gerald sends out the two pikachus he caught, and hands the smaller one his pokeball.
"You're with Romeo if you want to be, I just wanted you to be in a ball I checked myself so you'd be safe."
He pats the two, and picks both up, the larger of which has a mouth slit cheek to cheek and a slightly tattered ear.
"Here. We stick close together, so you'll be near your family at all times, okay guys?"
He hands the tinier one over to Romeo, and hugs the one with the Glasgow smile close.
"Hm...Glasgow."
He hugs and pats the pikachu, as Sparky hops up and nuzzles the new member.
Artemis picks up the ball, pocketing the unused one and tossing the broken one in her pack. Might be fixable later. She looks at the ball and scans it with her Pokédex, reviewing the information. Might be a pain to integrate into the team, but their experiences should make it more receptive to commands than most others of a similar disposition. She looks at the bug types lying in the open. "So, which one is first, and who's going for it?"
'So I get a little one? And from the looks of it's tail it's a girl. I think I'll call you Fairy Tail. Nice to meet you girl.' He hugs her.
'Arte, how many balls have we got? Enough to catch them now? I can revive one now, and we can wait and see if we catch it before the other 2. Sound good?'
"I have one left, and Gerald has 4 at least. Scintilla might be able to paralyze one if he gets a good hit in, but it might knock them right back out. I might be able to shock one as well with Copycat's gift," she says spinning the arrow in her fingers. "Anyone have something that can False Swipe that they can control?"
He pats Glasgow again.
"You'll come right back out, Glasgow. Trust me."
He pets the pikachu before recalling him.
"Think I have an idea. They're pack hunters, so being the omega would be a bad thing to them. They would understand the concept. We get them to work with us by promising higher rank if they behave. Of course, this means I don't get one as the weakest, but...it's just how it goes."
I have seven balls, albeit a bit lower quality than what y'all buy. Always prefer to go for numbers over quality myself. But before chucking these we had best do whatever we can to stack the odds. The Scyther are a tough catch.
"Then we revive them one at a time, healing them to barely standing so the ball can hold them easily. If they're a bit too well recovered, I could use that as opportunity to try to stun them, or the Pikachu can get a shot at payback and possible paralysis of the Scyther. Sound good?"

Romeo sets about healing a Scyther.
'Get ready you guys.'
As soon as it's un, he hits it with a great ball.
