And the logical part of me answers: in any small organisation, it's not so much the problem that nobody else is capable of doing that job, it's the problem of what else doesn't get done if you put somebody else onto the envelope-stuffing line.

Does "Order Received" mean I should have it, or they just sent it?
Because I don't have mine yet here in Denmark. :smallfrown:
Just finished reading the new book. It's great, of course. If I might give one critique though; at several points you used a dark grey text box with black text. Very hard to read...
And not a critique, but a comment. I'd pay more for an all-color format for future publications.
To be honest, we do pay more for a full-color print because Rich pays more for it.
Also, for those of you who got their book and wanna discuss it, there's another thread. This thread is for us to whine in!
Anyway, got my email! If neither the USPS nor IPS screw it up, I expect to read it when I get home from summer camp (It's a nerd summer camp for the 35 best physics students my age in Israel, bonus points for me)
I'm in the UK and have had a shipping email (for 8/5 - presumably 5th August), but its not clear to me which number I put into the USPS link. Is it the customs ID or the order number I was given originally? Both give "not known" messages, but different ones. Given the dire warnings about the importance of me tracking the package, should I be worried?
Is delivery 6-10 days?
Has anyone had trouble tracking their package on the Endicia site that the email links to so that you can track your package? I got my email saying that my package would ship on 8/4, but the Endicia site and the USPS tracking site have no information at all for my tracking number. I'm curious if anyone that already received their copy had trouble tracking their package.
Just received mine about half an hour ago, and I don't have any tracking issues on my end. Though, I do hear that a lot of those tracking updates are more bound by the honor system on the deliverer's end than anything else, so it's possible someone at the post office is feeling grumpy or something.
That said, this is my first OotS book, is the material/ink quality of this one comparable to the others? It looks and feels quite a bit nicer than what I was expecting. Naturally, I haven't been able to read it yet, though.
got my copy on saturday. so glad its in my hands.
Yeah, I got two updates, one was informing me that my package was getting shipped when tracking said it was already in my state, and one was telling me my package was in Washington two days after it had arrived. I suggest trackin your package with a package tracking website, the email notifications aren't the greatest.
I just got back into the office after Gen Con and have not read this entire thread. Let me say a couple things, though:
1) I think that I've mentioned before, but tracking numbers are not useful. It's not a problem with us or Endicia, but rather with USPS - they simply don't do well in that area.
2) All of the pre-orders are NOT yet out. My shipping manager has been in the hospital since Thursday and I have been at Gen Con. She hopes to be back at it on Wed and it will be 2-3 more days after that before she and the crew finishes.
3) I see that there are jillions (or whatever is bigger than jillions - quintjillions?) of "where's my book" emails in my Inbox. I'm not sure I'll actually get to answer them all - I just ask that you hold your horses. We said this could take 2 weeks, and even with the lost time due to illness we think we'll still hit 2 weeks.
Kevin
Prayers and good wishes for your shipping manager. Being hospitalized stinks. I've had my wife in the hospital quite a few times, and it was never fun.
Respectfully,
Brian P.
I have to agree with this. In my experience tracking is completely useless and pointless, and this has been my experience with all shipped items, not just OotS books. Just ignore the tracking info.
That's sad to hear. I hope she's okay. This news is a bit aggravating since mine isn't shipped yet, but I suppose another week or two isn't that big of a deal.Quote:

For a big number you cold go with a googolplex. Alternatively, using Knuth's Arrow Notation never hurts.Quote:

It takes a few days for it to be trackable, and you use the customs ID on the USPS site, not your order number.
Aussies waiting for a book, I got on to Australia Post and they said my book should arrive end of this week or beginning of next at the latest. And I got my email on the 31st of July.
Just got mine. love the "Party face-off" between the OOTS.
Great stuff.
And the stick figure porn was not-nice.
Not quite so sure that the problem is with USPS so much as the computers at Endicia and USPS, I don't think they like each other. This is the third time I have placed an order and the confirmation email said to "go to this link". Twice with Ookoodook and once with another company. All three times the link did not work at all or would say item not found untill I already had the package. But going to the USPS site directly and typing the number in myself it came up right away this time. Last time the info was a day late but still close. Now for those who are overseas I have no advice at all since while the package is in customs Odin may know what is happening to it but us mere mortals not a clue.
USPS "tracking" is useless. It often tells my my package is still "in transit" days after it arrived.
I hope she recovers quickly! We'll wait patiently for our shipping e-mail. (Well, maybe not patiently, but quietly at least  )Quote:

Going by the above comments, I shouldn't be too worried that the USPS site doesn't have tracking details, but does anyone in the UK know if I'll be able to use the customs ID on the Royal Mail website once the package arrives in the UK?
When I got back into Houston last night and went into the warehouse, i saw that many of the packages (750-1000) has postage printed, but were still sitting there because Tina went to the hospital before USPS could pick them up.
These are going to be redated and shipping out as soon as she's back in (Thursday). Note that she has a crew of six helping out, so it should go very quickly. We expect days to finish, but I'll update here with status if it proves otherwise.
I'll also post here (and everywhere else I can find) once pre-orders are complete and current orders are caught up.
Huzzah it has arrived! And is Awesome!
They arrived just now!!! =D
Naturally, the delivery happened while my brother and I were out buying groceries, so whoever delivered it shoved the package in the mail box. (Thankfully, it fit, although it was tight. :smalleek:)
0 and D have both suffered the tiniest bit in the long journey/during the mail box-shoving (-1 didn't as it was the middle one), but I don't mind, at long last I can read them
Also, the USPS tracking tool still only says "Processed through Sort Facility" and "Electronic Shipping Info Received" for my tracking number, so everyone who's still waiting: don't worry, the delivery might be less than 24 hours away.
