Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I would recommend putting links to previous versions of the thread, like this:
OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase III
OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase II
Man, a cursory glance at these threads really takes you back... :smalleek: It's kinda embarrassing seeing my old posts. Did I really post like that? ;smallsigh;
I think the original thread is pretty much lost to the sands of time, however; at least, since the last thread purge.
@Drows and Orcs: I really like these. Each character looks sufficiently different. The matron mother's outfit is suitably grand yet imposing. I would suggest that you subtly curve the lines of webbing on the headdress, like you did on the robe. On another note, the spider looks like it has three segments, when it should have just two. Spiders have a thorax and an abdomen. The thorax feature the eyes and mouth, as well as the eight legs and a pair of pedipalps. The abdomen contains most of the vital internal organs, like the digestive tract, reproductive organs, and silk glands.
The hunched appearance of the orcs is a somewhat unusual touch, different from the Giant's orcs. The ears and stocky appearance make them look like goblin/orc hybrids, which may be what you were going for.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I'll update the first post ASAP, I'm not currently at the computer(posting from my phone).
As for the drow matron? I totally forgot to do the headpiece ._. I'll fix that as well... The spider too xD
On the orcs, I didn't like how human Rich makes them so I changed it - same goes for the goblins. I was going for something similar to the monster manuals description - hunched posture, pointed ears (I don't like lupine), and fearsome in general.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
*glances back at past thread* That's definitely an interesting take on orcs. Looks pretty good overall. The white fur trim on the one female orc should have thicker lines, though.
The matron mother looks very good too. She has the old boob issue, though. Probably from tilting the head forward, which removes the boob-less chest area I described before. =P
And now I have some stuff of my own again.

Here's a friend's character Bennu for a Pathfinder game. She's a cleric of Lissala, and the wrapping around her mouth is supposed to reflect the mouthless goddess. I rarely ever do armour, but I'm really happy with how hers came out. I insisted on avoiding anything resembling boob plate. :smalltongue:

And here we have my own drow, Kirk Locke. His last avi that you've been seeing in my sig up until recently was rather out of date, so I decided I'd update it.
http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/x...psc0fd8044.png
And lastly we have another character of mine that had an out of date avi, Salix. She's a young dryad who's bound to a weeping willow tree. She's cute, yes?

Speaking of orcs...

Not sure what this is, sorta made it on the fly. Kinda ended up looking like some sort of desert-orc revolutionary or something, I guess. Haven't really been using this style lately.

Glad you approve of my orcs  I'll fix the lines here in a bit.
Her looking good is good for me ._. Breasteses are a pain in the posterior, they're quite the female dog as well! :smallannoyed: As much as I like them, I can't stand makin' `em.

I don't have much to say about the cleric other than you did great on the armor
I love the drow's hat, uniform, and overall appearance and I would very much like to get an outfit like that for myself. **And I am aware it isn't a zoot suit, it's the only suit that I could think of though.**
The dryad? Cute overload - also, weeping willows are my favorite type of tree so that just boosts her awesomeness.

That came out fabulous  I quite like her bardiche.
May I ask why you've not used the style much lately?

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
No real reason, just been using other styles or doing tablet drawings. The OotS and semi-OotS styles are just something I play with once in a while.
-
Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Okay  Anything you're proud of or at least just happy about?
-
Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Cool stuff, Bright. Nice work on the armour and weapon there. And I always like how good you are with expressions.
And yes, gurgleflep, breasts are a huge pain to get right. Or at least I always thought so. Took me ages to get to a point where I'm really happy with how I draw them. :smalltongue:
And thanks for the compliments. Kirk is actually one of my oldest characters. He usually wears a full suit, but thi9s is more casual. (Yes, his casual is still rather formal. :smalltongue:) And I rather like weeping willows myself, which is why I chose the tree. It makes very good hair!

I probably wouldn't post anything in the thread if I did, it's not really relevant. It's all either doodles or unrelated to characters I've posted here. I'd start up an art thread, but I don't really make things frequently enough to warrant it.
Glad to know people like it, though.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I've updated the Matron Mother's headpiece (the lines are bendy!) and the barbarian orc's furs - is this any better? Didn't do the spider though, forgot about it until just now >_<

So no thread and you won't post here - do you have some site you post your work to? DeviantArt, tumblr, or one of those other sites I don't know the name of because I'm not into social networking? I'm more than a little interested in seeing your stuffs
Edit to avoid double post: I've made ALIENS!

You really seem to love the winged folk lately :smalltongue: It's a nice step away from the usual elves and you do great with them
Edit: Oh, and the little winged girl who's race I may or may not know looks nice

I've been playing with my new style of wings, sue me.
I totally didn't use an elf as a base for Neya. Nope.
That girl is just a fairy.

I didn't mean for it to sound mean, sorry if it did :smallfrown:
And I didn't use a gnome base for my aliens ;)
She looks nice :smallcool:

Yeah, you did the armour well. To be honest, If I had to make a breastplate for a woman myself, I'd only ever do it with actual breasts if it was supposed to look like a bare torso, much like some historical "male" breastplates. Otherwise I'd make it look like yours, because giving it any more specific shape would either just serve to make it heavier, or give it weak spots, neither which is desirable on the battlefield...
I do think you should make the wrapping around her mouth round off less toward her left side, since that side is more turned away from us...

I would like to see it compared to how it looked before, though. :smallwink:

Very cute indeed! :3
And I agree, weeping willows are pretty. Perhaps not my favourite trees, but very pretty...

This is very cool! I can't find anything to complain at.
I especially like her mouth. You're good at making lively mouths...

*drows and orcs*
These are all pretty cool! Good work!
Now, I do agree that something looks off about the Matron Mother, and I think you should try and curve the area above her breasts a little more inwards, perhaps even giving it a slightly concave curve. This is something I'd have to spend a few minutes experimenting with myself to get right, so it's hard giving suitable advice for over text, though. Do as looks best for you in the end.
It looks like the middle orc hasn't cut/swept the hair to her left beyond her ear just as she's done with her right. This may be per design, but I'm alerting you of it nevertheless...
The stiletto of the rightmost orc has a too thin outline compared to the rest. I know it's hard to do thin objects with thick outlines satisfactory, but they may end up looking a little pasted on top of the image otherwise...
Finally, I think you should move all magic behind the magic user's hands and arms. I personally think it looks better that way...

A very thin dagger, unless I'm mistaken and that actually is supposed to be a wand, but my point stands...

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
It's meant to be a wand :smalltongue: I'm used to stiletto being a term for lady shoes. I'll thicken it up here soon, probably increase it's size a bit so the colors are still noticeable.

I feel it actually held up very well to the tests of time, but recently I've felt that it's rather dated now. Compared to my more recent avis that is. So, time for an update.
<.< I may have copy pasted the hat.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Hello, I bring spoilers.
No, it's not a "spoiler in the spoiler" joke.
-
Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
@Gulaghar: nice  Did you consider moving the feather to the other side of the hat and hiding it behind the... well, I don't know the exact term, but put it in the belt thing on the other side :smalltongue:
@Crimmy: I take it you're working on a slenderman project? If I'm right, that looks pretty awesome :smallcool:
-
Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
@Gurgle: Let's say you're right. Heheheheh :xykon:
-
Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
@Crimmy: That looks very cool, Crimmy! And rather ominous. *peers at suspiciously*
@Gurgle: Maybe, but I like the feather and want ti to be visible. :smalltongue: I could have shifted it forward more, considering the angle, but it's good as is, and the thought of all the edited versions I'd need to reupload makes me cringe.
-
Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
The feather thing is a very common trope. It helps keep identifying features on the head (hair or in this case the feather) recognizable. Instead of having a full 360 degree range of angles, no matter what angle the character is viewed from the identifying feature will be in a small range of areas on either side of the head.
The best example of this is Goku's hair from Dragonball. It just flips sides depending on which way he is facing.
Remember, tropes are neutral, not good or bad. It all comes down to how the trope is used.
Besides, how do you know he always wears the feather on the same side of his hat?:smalltongue:

*waves awkwardly* Hey all. First-timer here, hope I won't disappoint.
Anyway, these are...um, harpies. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're harpies. Inspired by "No Encounters Today," the lovely wallpaper that came out a couple months ago.
