[Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
This is a thread for plots not large enough to need a separate thread, or locations that don't fit anywhere else. If you'd like a location permanently indexed in the first post, PM me.
Longer lasting or more serious plots might fit better in the Srs Plots thread 2. Lulzy plots go here. If you aren't sure which thread fits your plot best, then just pick whichever one is less busy at the time.

With one last snarl, the dragon, who is named Toraxanaylus, releases Greg. "Take me to him right now. I want him dead!" Seems she isn't interested in setting up an ambush.
Even as they speak, Karylyanna enters the hoard chamber clutching her bleeding head. She snarls at Greg, managing to look intimidating despite her human appearance.
Greg might want to start emptying his pockets.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
Greg quickly upends his pockets, dumping the pilfered treasure. "Ah, hello. Sleep well?" He offers with a sheepish, worried smile as he gets the last of it dumped out. "Well, let's not waste any time. We need to get after him."
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Karyl, without any comment, marches right over to Greg and tries to slap him across the face. She puts a touch of her draconic strength behind it. Hopefully she doesn't loosen a tooth, because that is a hell of a slap.
"You bastard! I should throw you off the side of the mountain!" A lick of flame escapes her lips.
Her sister is already moving toward the way out of the cave. No doubt Greg will be brought along shortly.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
The slap almost knocks him off his feet and causes blood to spurt from his lip. He straightens and coolly wipes it away. "You might have to get in line for that one. She might want the first go." He points her departing sister. "Well, I'd love to chat, but I've got to get after her. Das vidanya!"
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Karyl tries to grab him by the back of his shirt and toss him after Tora. "You stupid son of a bitch. I'm coming with you. Now get moving!" Tora is moving at a quick pass, likely as fast as Greg can run. He might get the feeling that he should match that pace, based on Karyl's expression.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Greg moves after he, running at a breakneck pace. It just occurred to me that Dipsnig is probably going to be furious about this. What the heck happened to Esther, anyway?
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair -> Out]
Once they're outside Karyl shifts into her dragon form. She is more lithe then her sister, and lacks the gold in her scales. Just red for her.
"Get on my back or I'll let Toraxanaylus carry you in her claws." She hisses.
"Which way!" Tora demands.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair -> Out]
Greg clambers onto Karyl's back. "They went that a way, Sheriff." He points the way to WATCHTOWER. "This guy went straight home to his base, a fortress called WATCHTOWER. Should be easy for you guys to stomp."
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair -> Out]
Karyl's not so big that Greg can't get some kind of grip around her neck. It's not a good grip, and Karyl isn't actively trying to stop him from plummeting to his death, but he should be able to hold on.
"I know of it." And that's all Tora says before taking off toward Watch. Her sister follows right behind.
((I'll post Watch as soon as we get the plotclone silliness sorted out with Harnel and undoubtedly SC as well. Harnel definitely won't be able to get back here in time to stop them though, or even know that they left. He'll have to talk to yet another angry dragon most likely. :smalltongue:))
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
((Right. We should also maybe ask Watchtower if they mind a bunch of big angry dragons showing up on their doorstep. Don't want to disrupt anything already in progress.))
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Harnel says to the air, "Thank you, Libra," knowing that the oni is watching. Assuming this is the exit he left from earlier, he'll go inside towards the treasure pile, with the intent of putting the half-dragon egg back into the nest.
Part of Harnel also wonders where exactly Esther got off to. Does anything stop him on his way in?
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Harnel might notice a number of wasps around. Some went with Greg as well, though they weren't mentioned do to forgetfulness.
Of course, he might be too distracted by the fact that there's an earthquake when he arrives. A rock falls from the mountainside nearby, and it lands pretty close. It's not an earthquake, however. Though, he might wish is was. Just behind him is the massive dragon they saw leave the mountain before. She loks down at Harnel a moment, surprised at his sudden appearance.
Then very suddenly, rather than a dragon, there's a kindly looking woman standing before him. She has a more dignified air about her than Karyl did, though she's just as beautiful. She wears a very conservative dress and her hair is piled atop her head in a complex style.
"Can I help you, dear?" She asks, her voice as warm as her expression. That is, until she catches sight of the egg. All warmth fades from her face. Better explain quick, Harnel.
Also, I've been informed that the egg has continued to hatch, Libra's influence over it ending.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Harnel will angle the egg so that first thing the baby sees will be what is likely its grandmother.
"Due to circumstances regarding a ritual I'm taking part in, I needed to take an egg briefly from the nest inside. The type of egg didn't really matter, but it had to be a dragon egg; or half-dragon, as the case seems to be. Regardless, I'm attempting to return to the child to its family before it hatches fully. The child hasn't been harmed in any way; all that happened was I had to prove my ability to obtain one." He says worriedly
"Frankly, I know this looks bad, but I have a very good reason for it all. See, a god set down a list of challenges for me to accomplish. One of them was obtaining a dragon's egg, which I did. If I accomplish all the tasks, I can become a true dragon myself, but I'm allowed to return up to three of the items I have to collect; this one was an obvious choice to return."
It's not that much of an exaggeration to put Libra down as a god. Harnel knows that technically anything of a higher power can be referred to as such.

Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
The dragon, Kaflixorothos, does not look any happier about this situation after the explanation. "Do you not have a brain between your ears, you damned fool? I should kill you where you stand and do the world a favour."
She kneels down beside the hatching half dragon, all traces of anger wiped from her face instantly. "Come on, little one. Just a little bit more." She coos. The little half dragon is almost out now. If Harnel looks he'll see that it's a girl.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
"Frankly, I find it better to be honest and up front about this sort of thing to the person in control than it is to lie to them and have them find out later. If I'm honest, there's at least a chance I won't be eviscerated."
Harnel actually avoids looking. He's keeping his attention focused on the dragon in front of him, "Besides, it can't hurt to have another ally in the area. The Nexus can be a dangerous place, even for dragons."
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Kafli doesn't reply to Harnel. She just continues coxing the baby out of her egg. After a moment she gently picks up the girl. The baby has the red and gold scales of her mother. Her hands and feet are clawed and she has black hair and yellow eyes. Her face is not draconic and her ears are pointed.
The dragon stands up to look at Harnel again. "You think I would consider someone who kidnapped a member of my family an ally? Maybe if you had done it for a good reason, and it would have to be very good, but you did it for your own greed or lust for power." She sounds down right venomous.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
"Fine then," Harnel says, "Know this then; if you hear from me again, it will be because you embroiled yourself in something I'm doing, not because I've sought you out. Goodbye."
At this point Harnel is going to attempt to take wing and fly away.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
"Not just yet, half human." There's a definitely threat in Kafli's voice. "You are going to explain yourself to the child's mother before I let you go. She was hurt most by this after all."
The baby starts crying after she finishes this statement. Kafli begins rocking her slowly, whispering comforting words in draconic.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Harnel got as far as stretching his wings out. "She's speaking with my wife right now. She knows her child has been returned safe from harm. Now, I'm going to go to my wife and your daughters." And this time he will take off, flying in the direction of WATCH
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Dragon's Lair]
Kafli narrows her eyes at Harnel, but she couldn't pursue him even if she wanted to. She has a crying child to attend to. Soon after he leaves she takes the baby back inside to wait.

What the heck are you talking about? There's land near, isn't there?

Not unless she jumped around twenty-five feet. They're in the middle of the river, not near a bank.

River Tethys
You really under-estimate her skills at jumping. Depending on her angle since she's physically fit, she'd be able to clear at least 11 feet to my knowledge.
However, she begins swimming towards the bank. She's a strong swimmer.
"Tirin! Pull the boat over!"
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[River Tethys]
((Okay. But, the bank is farther than that. As I said, it's twenty-five feet off. Besides, she doesn't know where it is, because of the fog. Though she can get a rough direction by the fact that they're moving just fine, rather than slamming into one of them, and therefore it must be to the left and right.))
Tirin will pull the boat over, making sure that she's not in the way when he does so.

She clambers onto the bank. "So where is the closest one?"

Tirin hops out, onto the bank near her.
"Follow me."
Unless something comes up, he'll lead her to the nearest colony.

Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4

After a short time, they should reach the colony. It might just be their eyes, but the mist seems to twist itself into human forms, just out of clear sight, disappearing before they can get a good look at them.
The city is almost perfectly preserved; there has been no looting, no decay, not even a broken window.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4

Elena looks around.
"I wonder how it's so well preserved..."

Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
An Unassuming Halfway House
"I'll never understand his fascination with the Objects..."
I shake my head to clear it, no good broadcasting my thoughts again. Got enough things listening in on a night like this without giving Them a free wiretap. We've known about the Objects for awhile now, ever since we first landed in the Nexus. The place is a goldmine, rich with oppurtunity, but Their stink is all over this place. If rumors can be believed then Legion, the Seekers like the one that put down Gregorovich, and even old Deadeyes call this place their home. It's time to stop standing around and gawking. It's time to tip the scales an inch back in our favor. It's time to walk into this place and see a nurse about a hipflask.
Now if only I could convince my legs that.
Arkinos will not stop jabbering in my ear now that he knows I'm on this path. All of those things that have drawn him to the Objects are at the forefront of his mind. "Don't you see... they are the only thing truly unbuildable... a wonder of the ancients... building blocks of the universe and the key to..." I pay him as little attention as possible. Let him find his own Object if he can muster up the courage to slink out of that hole he's building. This time it's all about me.
"Just take a step, all you need is the first step, after that everything falls into place."
I try to distract myself. I think about Gregorovich, and the new mess he's gotten himself into. I think about the mess I'm getting him into by taking this step. We all know which one of Them is in his sights. Its challenge is simple, and almost made for him. By the time I come back to my senses, I'm in the the building, and the receptionist is asking me something. That's my cue.
"My apologies, I must have been daydreaming." at the same time I'm saying this I'm scanning her, physically and mentally. No name tag, but her thoughts say she's Sally, and that's good enough for me. They also say she's human, but it's hard to think of these people as human. Not when a simple phrase turns them into portals to the deepest hell a man can crawl into. "I wonder if I can visit the one who calls himself The 'Holder of Reverie'."
Nothing is said. I'm taken by the "hand" and we begin our trek through the labyrinthine halls of this place. Already we're far away from where we started, but none of my senses can tell me where. I can only hope against hope that if the demons judging this can see through my disguise that it won't matter whether or not my body is a gel golem covered by an illusion. I may survive whatever they do to me if I'm found wanting, but I'm sure my sanity won't. I shudder to think what will happen to the others if one of us goes mad.
By the time my little introspection it's almost too late. We're headed down a hallway with nothing at the end and in a few short steps that's where we'll be. I shut my "eyes" and trick my senses into cutting all visual input. Then I'm on a precipice. I speak out in a low voice, with a calm I'm not feeling.
"Sally."
And I'm struck. Feeling, motion, skin crawling and toes curling and all those impossible things hit my brain all at once. I briefly entertain the thought that I've done something wrong when it stops. And I open my eyes.
My first thought is that she's beautiful. Not in the classical sense, not physically, but mentally. Her mind is wide open like a blanket, seeping into mine and smothering it lovingly. I could live an eternity in three seconds in this embrace, but I don't. Instead I study her, probing her mind as my "eyes" feast on her form. Her brain is like an open book. In its wrinkles and folds lies the infinite knowledge of the universe, all bent towards my care. She has seen more than any other, and yet she desires none more than I. It's a heady feeling. On her face she wears a mask of tragedy, just as I wear a mask of comedy on my soul. A more symbolic pair you will never find.
She rests her hand delicately on my chest, fingers scraping gently on the edge of my conciousness. Her voice is like a choir of angels speaking directly into my mind. "I've been waiting for you. Are you ready?"
It is nice. Better than nice. But I'm an old soul and I know a trick when I see one. She knows before I do what I'm about to say, but I say it anyway.
"I'm sorry, but I won't." I stare past the mask, past the eyes, and into the devil that lurks within her. My answer is sure, and without doubt. But even still she asks again.
"Are you certain, is there nothing that will-"
"I'm Sorry, but I Won't."
She smiles wearily, and her hand rises from my chest as she leaves the bed. Only now do I look about the room. It's rather generic, but peaceful. Sunlight is streaming through the window merrily as she approaches the dresser on the other side of the room. When she returns, she hands me the flask with a sad depth to her eyes.
We wait in silence for the door to appear. When it does I walk into a room that is a mirror of the one I left. Only her absence, and my longing for her, marks it as different. But I lay upon the bed for a time, and for a time I rest. Then I sleep, and I dream.
---
My Home
When I awake my longing for her sits heavy on my chest. No... wait...
I look down. There, sinking into the golem that is slowly breaking apart, is the flask. I quickly dismiss the construct, no need to get slime all over the bedspread, and levitate the flask up to rotate before my being. It's beautiful, slightly tarnished silver with delicate filigree climbing up the sides. On the front, embossed into the metal, a mask of tragedy stares out at me.
Now comes the tricky part. Metamorphosis from an incorporeal form to a solid one is possible, but temporary and always extremely painful. By the time it's done I'm gasping at the rush of sensation as nerve endings construct themselves from nothing and flood my mind with alien sensation. But it's worth it.
I steel myself, taking longer than necessary to clear my mind of the rush that comes with having cool air dance across your skin for the first time in decades. Then, just as I'm about to lose shape, I drink.
I am now Object 440 of 2538, It is unknown what will happen when We come together.
More than that, I'm Ceres Fiske. Waldorf, Jakob, Julie, Kharn, and now me. Fifth of the family to find a way back to the physical world, and now all I have to do is test it out.

Elena took out her Umbrella Magnum.
"Uh...is there any stories about ghosts here?"

"Well, Locus Manes does mean 'place of ghosts'. So the answer is probably 'yes'."

((It's worth noting that Despair still has most of the armor on his upper body and his Helmet.))
[Swamp of Not-Quite-Sanity]
Despair senses some apprehension, but still walks back over to Jasmine.
Well, you're in charge here. What should we do now?
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
River Tethys
"Crap. Ghosts are...intense."
She slipped out the clip and replaced it with a different one. The bullets were made out of cold iron instead of the usual metal.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[River Tethys]
A foul smell, like rotting flesh, suddenly wafts from the house next to them, along with cries of pain.
After a moment, the cries subside, though not the stench.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
River Tethys
Finally, Elena flips the two pieces of metal on the magnum so it looked like a cross, making it into a holy weapon and perfect against undead.
"Let's go do some excorcisms."
She will then go towards the house.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[River Tethys]
As she approaches, she can hear that they seem to be discussing the treatment of some kind of necrotizing plague.
The stink intensifies the closer she gets.
Tirin follows, and says "Is there any particular reason to do this? They're not hurting anything where they are."
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
River Tethys
"The most common reason why ghosts are still around is because they have unfinished business. That's why we're going to either find out what it is or we'll exorcise them so they can move on that way."
She begins to listen intently on the conversation.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[River Tethys]
It seems that they're trying to figure out a cure for it, or at least something to slow it, but they don't have anything.
She might be able to guess, given the extreme pain the disease would have caused, that these might simply be psychic residue of the experience.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
River Tethys
"Alright, stay with me Tirin."
She'll peek into the building. She's not a professional ghost hunter, all she knows is the chit chat passed around Umbrella.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[River Tethys]
The smell was bad before, but as soon as she opened the door, it intensified greatly. It's probably easily enough to make her throw up.
She can see some sort of medical kit attached to the chest of a man with half his face rotted off, though the other half is fine. He's twitching, though he's probably drugged.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
River Tethys
Elena grimaced. She had to concentrate to not throw up, but at least this wasn't as bad as some of the things she has seen before. She tried to listen to the conversation again.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[River Tethys]
They seem to have come to a decision while she was concentrating on not throwing up; they start to load the rotting man onto hovering stretcher.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
River Tethys
Elena will follow them, trying to stay out of sight as much as possible.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Locus Manes]
(Since they're not on the river anymore)
Tirin sticks close to her.
They should eventually arrive at a hospital.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
Locus Manes
Elena continues to watch observantly of what happens to the drugged man.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Locus Manes]
A short time after they arrive at the hospital, he's transferred from the floating stretcher to some sort of machine, which closes around him.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
Locus Manes
She takes aim and begins firing at the man.
"Alright, we've been watching for too long."
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Locus Manes]
The bullets, since they can presumably interact with ghosts, bounce off the machine. (Or go harmlessly through it and the man, if they can't.)
The figures around him turn in her direction.
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
Locus Mane
Elena reloads.
"Hello, we're here to send you on. Shall we have a nice orderly line or shall we do this the hard way?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
[Locus Manes]
"Who are you?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Random Places and Plots 4
Locus Mane
"I'm Elena and this is Tirin. Now seriously, you're all ghosts and need to move on."
