Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Welcome to the 24th ABR Discussion Thread!
Now go make comics!
Because we used to burn through new ABR threads so quickly, we created the Discussion thread. All banter goes here, and all comics and non-canon kills go in the main thread. (see line below)
Avatar Battle Royale: We All Live in A Yellow Citadel is the current thread. Post artwork there.
Even though it seems to be holding together nicely;
The ABR backup thread, is used in the event of Giantitp becoming untenable due to server issues or otherwise.
The next link is quite good, although it could have used some more images.
Trailer for the Fat Fish Fury plot by Kpenguin
The next one should have had music, but didn't. :(

Future Imperfect Trailer by Nameless
The Amazing ABR Wiki
It's free. It works. What else do you want?
The world map of Avbaroy
Mad Mask is a good cartographer. Of course, he didn't make up the majority of the countries.

And it's very different if it's Nameless that kills a person than if it was anyone else, Nameless has immortality (a power of death so if the victim fight back it could count as misuse) and omnipresence to help him.
If Ins has a soul and can die, he's readable. Nameless' other powers have nothing to do with how much he can harm Ins. His immortality has more to do with him already being dead, rather then being Death.

He can stop working and be destroyed but his "soul" is a nanomachine's thus he's not a living being (more of a construct) and cannot "die", he shouldn't even get to an afterlife when we finish him.
To my knowledge being death never has given immortality (liches, zombies, vampires, they all can be defeated and send to the afterlifes they deserve)

You can kill them, but they don't die.

Isn't that's what kill means? (to make someone die) besides I didn't write die I wrote defeated and send to the afterlifes they deserve, so I don't get the point of your post.
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Whatever Onasuma's resurrection attempt put into Lying's corpse was something from the Sovice block that the spell identified as a "soul", some kind of energy signature related to the intellectual workings of it.
But it is very unlikely to be a traditional Incarnum-based soul, because if it were then the Sovices would be much more familiar with things like magic. It's more likely an energy similar to it but with a much more universe-native origin.
So Ins is technically soul-less, and an aberration of both Sovice and human physiology.

I mean, they're immortal unless they're killed; they don't die on their own.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
To kill, is to cause something so much damage that the being is unable to remain animated.

By that definition you can kill robots and golems too.

I always considered the word kill to be used when one takes the life away from another living being. *shrugs*
Edit- Art thread discussion thread link updated.
Also, could anyone post that chart thing showing the Alf members and their respective ranks etc, please?(And one for the UNA if that was ever made?) I feel I should update all my templates to FI before the thing actually starts..
Scratch that, I found it in the first post. <.<
Somewhat outdated though, isn't it?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Yeah.
Anyway.
Is anyone interested in reviving L&L with me?
EDIT: Also, I thought mods locked thread over the 50-page limit. I can understand letting the discussion threads go on until we got the new one approved but...
Or am I wrong?

The mods usually do, but they're pretty lackadaisical around here in general, and the ABR discussion has to go somewhere

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
I meant, now that the new thread is up, why didn't they lock the old one.
For that matter, why isn't the discussion thread from 2 threads ago locked?
EDIT: After watching Nameless's trailer for FI, I was impressed, but I kept expecting it to switch to some kind of hard rock song and a montage of art... :smallfrown:
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Because they don't have to worry about us using the thread. They think we are smart people. :smalltongue:

Speaking of Trailers, Megadoomer, the link to my trailer is the one where I accidentally typed "Feature Imperfect" instead of "Future Imperfect" I don't suppose you could change the link to this one could you?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
I'm wondering... Are there any programs that are a step up from Inkscape that don't cost as much as Adobe Illustrator?
Because I'm annoyed with some of Inkscape's limitations and eccentricities, but I don't have anywhere near the money for Illustrator.
EDIT: Also, Mad Mask, could you redraw your Squark Iota? I realize that at the time you didn't have a clear picture of him, but your depiction of him doesn't match my drawings at all.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Can someone sum up what still needs to happen so we can finish FFF? If I had any knowledge of that i might be able to provide a page or two getting us there.
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
We just need to complete the Battle of Alphantica.

Can't we use the one that floods the earth? It worked well last time... Though nuclear wastelands are always good.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
What is going to happen first in FI after mad mask starts the plot? What meaningless subplot will we start?
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Dunno.
Again, apologies to any who find Squark's use of Imperceptible overpowered.

Don't think we have anything planned other then a few people with their own individual character intros.
Once Mad starts the plot, I guess people will just do that, and after the initial intro's someone is going to make a comic introducing some macguffin or something and that'll get the ball rolling.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
I've decided to pop here, just to see what the hell happens here.
So, I'm both new and lazy. 'Cause I don't feel like browsing around to see what I am supposed to be doing.
So, anyone can brief me without getting me dizzy?
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Ermm... Ok, but, to be honest, with FFF wrapping up, now is not a great time for newbies to join. Then again, I chose this time to rejoin, so that's a bit hypocritical of me.
Let's see...
Fat Fish Fury begins with Almighty Salmon falling in Love with Threeshades (TS for short). Threeshades then "falls in love" with Salmon's younger, but much larger, brother, Leroy. A fight breaks out, and Threeshades flees to her fortress of vengeance, with Salmon in pursuit. Both acquire several allies, most notably- Salmon meets his old friend Kpenguin, who has done a lot of the exposition, while TS meets up with Lyinginbedmon, who has cast a spell of permanent domination on her (in actuality, Threeshades rolled a natural 20 on her bluff check.. so yeah). Kpenguin then reveals TS's true goal: Leeroy is the only person who can open a mystic temple, within which is a macguffin which controls dragons, which will allow her to rule the world like her grandmother Sildyu before her. However, a parody of the Order of the Scribble stopped her and locked the temple, so it can only be opened with 5 keys.
There are more story arcs dealing with Threeshade's redemption, the death of the Aranthi Shades, and so on, but the last bit of FFF, and the major villains of its sequel, Future imperfect, are the sovice.
The Sovice are... essentially, they're magical replicators (from Stargate SG-1). Their leader is Inses... Insesectile or something or other. We just call him Ins. Ins is a clone of lying with the soul of a sovice block with in him. Ins has formed the United Nations of Avbaroy, which is attempting to solidify its hold over the world. The UNA appears to be benevolent, but the Sovice's record speaks for itself.
The last story arc of FFF deals with the battle of Aphlantica. Or something. Anyway, 2 Sovice battleships are bearing down on Aphlantica, attempting to destroy the last large hold of resistance to sovice domination.
The Sovice have the Soverign, and its sister ship, both nearly indestructible, while the Resistance has been reduced to The Citadel of Bis Anu (an ancient, magical, flying city).
For more info, read through the archive (which is sadly incomplete).
Visiting the wiki and reading any of the backstory comics (Lyinginbedmon's is the most informative, dealing with Sildyu's reign of terror, although the sovice do make an appearance.
EDIT: Urgh... Someone else try to summurise this in simpler terms while I try to read the comics that aren't in the archive.
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Even though it is too long, it was, in fact, very well summarized.
I almost entirely understood everything.
I'll see then what to do when a new story arc pops.

Incorrect. I don't believe Salmon ever loved her. It began with him trying to kill Leroy for falling in love with the enemy.

Well fine.
He asked her out on a date, fell in love, same difference.

It began with Salmon hitting on Threeshades and Threeshades running away with Leroy after Salmon wanted to make him a giant filet, for falling in love with her.

Ooh! Ooh! I know!
We sit around talking about what ever the heck we feel like and very rarely someone sits down and makes a comic that may or may not actually advance the plot! :smalltongue:

You left out an important part: Ins is in Lying's original body. Lying died casting an apocalyptic spell, and after a chicken (not me)tried to resurrect him, a newly deceased Sovice spirit went into Lying's body instead. of course, Lying had many clones, so he came back to life, but that doesn't matter. What does is: Ins looks exactly like Lying, except that he has blue eyes and, these days, is looking a lot healthier.

In answer to the subtitle of this thread.
Haste is the spell that has been cast on me to allow me to turn out so many comics recently...
Or maybe I'm just being a bit sloppy with the art...

Thanks. It's a real type of hat, by the way.
@Squark: What the hell is Ins doing on the ship ?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Its not so much the shape of the hat, but the position on the head that bothers me. Should not more of the head be inside the hat?

Also, Squark; if you want people to notice when you make a new comic in the same post as an old one, you might want to copy the contents of the post, delete it, and make a new one with both the old comic and the new one. The only reason I knew to look at the art thread was because MM posted about it.

I think it might look better if you forgo the hat entirely. It just seems like an odd thing for the ruler of the world to wear.

Rulers often have fancy hats.
