I'd like more input on whether people would rather have a bit more free-form on who answers what (claim-a-question style) or more structured (This time will be done by this person and next time is next person etc.). Or is there a better option that no one has voiced yet?

You can do both. You throw the question to the thread. If nopony claims it within a day, we have a list on rotation. Also, if somepony seems to be claiming too much, maybe you ask them politely to step aside and give it to the next person in rotation. That way we have someone available for sure, but can still let the thread be pretty freeform.

Also, set deadlines on the artists. No, I don't care what anyone else says or whether they complain about being too formal. Set them. You'll thank me later.

I'm afraid you misunderstand. You'll note I designed the list such that it only gets updated when someone adds a pony to the list. This is a feature, not a bug, intended to encourage more ponies on the list. If I change that right now, it'd be a security breach and abuse of privileges on my end. I can put you in to receive a form to request that support for such an update could be added to the codebase, but I cannot guarantee that my supervisors will approve of such a feature request, nor can I guarantee any sort of deadline on such a request.

I'm afraid me getting an OC pony is not a possibility at this time due to a conflict of interests vis-a-vis my status as a deity of frogs, as well as not supportable due to my current financial and spatial situations.

It's humanity in general. They did one of those psychology studies on university students (the ones that are disturbing when you really think about it) that found that if they assigned three papers over three weeks and let the students do as they pleased, they would cram at the end and do a bad job. If they assigned one paper per week, they would work on one each week and do better work.

I was educated that those were called Eagles' Nests, but apparently everyone else calls them Dome-shaped Jungle Gyms. As they are based off of the same principal of Monkey Bars, they're still quite weak, and they require a lot of detail not usually seen in cutie marks, but since they look somewhat nice, I suppose it will do if we absolutely have to.

Looking at the picture you posted, I'm inclined to believe that Applejack has the ferris wheel (also the Apple Acres farm behind said ferris wheel looks to be selling pies), Twilight Sparkle has an Air Balloon ride, Pinkie Pie has a fun house or perhaps a cotton candy stand, and Rarity has a fortune-telling stand. You know, 'cause fortune tellers use crystals and all that. And now that I look a bit more closely, there's a pink and yellow sign over what looks like the petting zoo behind the balloon... And that there's a seal or some sort of walrus in said petting zoo. Petting zoos are weird.

Spike has some sort of a tent, too. I presume that's the natural oddities tent. Anyone else have a wagon? The one in the picture doesn't match up with what Trixie's was colored.

E: Heh, there's about 50 ponies in that picture, too. See? It's possible.

(let's just call him Color Wheel to make things easier)

Born and raised in the city of Cloudsdale. Had a fairly normal childhood until he went to Junior Flight Academy where he found that 'most everyone had their cutie marks already but he was still a blank flank. He was of course ridiculed for this but he never gave a flying feather because he knew that one day he'd get his cutie mark and he'd finally shut everypony up. Unfortunately Color Wheel didn't know what he was especially talented at he tried everything that the JFA had to offer; drawing, sculpting, math, sports, and all sorts of things all of which he was good at but he never excelled in any one subject. He went through all five years of Flight academy (i'm assuming JFA works like an elementary school where it goes K-5) as a blank flank.

Color Wheel was furious and depressed because all his classmates had found their special talents at JFA but him. But he persevered and kept trying new things until one morning in his sophomore year of high school (ha) he was fed up. He was done trying and decided to give up on trying to ever receive his cutie mark, "I've tried everything! EVERYTHING!" he said furiously while pacing the floor of his dorm with his girlfriend Wind Runner laying as his bed watching him with concern, "And still no cutie mark! I can't find my special talent because i don't have one! I'm not talented at anything! I've tried everything from Archaeology to Zoology and back! And still no f*cking cutie mark!!! 'Everyone finds their special talent eventually' WELL I'M A SOPHOMORE NOW, I'M TIRED OF WAITING I'LL JUST LIVE THE REST OF MY LIFE AS A BLANK FLANK! HONESTLY I'M NOT TALENTED ANYTHING I'M JUST GOOD AT EVERYTHING!!!" It was then that his cutie mark appeared. A billion thoughts raced through his head That's my cutie mark? What the hay does it mean? It's has nothing to do with painting i already tried that. After a while of starring at his cutie mark the two realized that his special talent was being a Jack of All Trades, master of none.

Color Wheel was overjoyed, he flew out of his dorm window, much to Wind Runner's surprise, and flew around town telling everypony that he saw that he had finally earned his cutie mark! Wind Runner finally stopped him because they had to go to class after all they'd missed three periods already. When he got to class he couldn't resist showing off his new cutie mark to everypony in his class. After that day he was never called a blank flank again and he'd become fairly popular since he could fit in with anypony he wanted he could play sports like the jocks, he could act with the Thespians, he could paint like the artists, etc. which he couldn't do because no one wants to hang out with a blank flank, luckily Wind Runner's a strange little filly.

After going through highschool he went to Canterlot City College (not a prestigious as you'd think) with Wind Runner and it was there that he meet Princess Luna. Now Color Wheel had never meet the Princess in person he'd only seen her at the Summer Sun Celebrations and when she'd attend the Best Young Flyer's Competitions, which Wind Runner would participate in.
"So we hear that thou art quite the dilettante and are quite sociable," said Luna sneaking up behind Color Wheel while he was on his way to his next class
"Aah oh it's you Princess...uh...Princess...Luna..."
"Yes, we would like to speak with thee," said Luna around behind her at everypony starring and whispering surely about the princesses presence at the college,"in private."
"Uh..okay," he said utterly baffled and awestruck.
"Does thou have some where we may converse?"
"Uh.. my apartment," he said thinking of the first place that came to mind. " but first," he said now able to speak competently "I should tell my professor that i'm not going to be in class today."
"Very well, we shall wait out here." Color Wheel waked into his classroom his head still spinning. And walked up to his professor.
"Uh Mr. Stable?"
"Yes?"
" I won't be attending class today."
"Oh?And why not?"
"Well i have to go talk to Princess Luna about something-"
"Princess Luna? Now I've heard a lot of excuses in my day but this is the most outrageous one I've ever heard. Now then, since you're here take your seat and get out your not-"
"But professor I'm being serious." At this Mr. Stable raised an eyebrow.
"Well if you're going to 'talk to the Princess' why don't you tell her to come in here so that i can hear this from her," he said feeling smug.
"Okay." Color Wheel walked out of the class room. "Uh Princess my teacher would like to see you," he said poking his head out the door.
"Pray tell to what reason does he want to see us?"
"Well he doesn't believe me that your here to-"
With a groan,"Then we shall show him the truth we do not have time for this," as Luna walked into the class. The class went dead silent. Luna walked over to Mr. Stable, ignoring the class who had begun murmuring, "Does thou believe him now? can he leave your class?"
"Uuh...yes... yes your Majesty my apologies," he said bowing before the Princess.
"Come we wish not to waste anymore time, now take us to your 'apartment' " she said to Color Wheel as they exited the classroom which, at this, had become somewhat of an uproar. The two flew to Color Wheel's apartment, ignoring all the murmuring ponies, and Luna shut the door behind them.
"So Princess what did you want to talk to me about?"
"We would like to make the a job offer"
"A job offer?"
"Yes, was the not clear?"
"Yes your Majesty. What kind of job are you offering me?"
"We have taken note of thy ability to commune and relate with anypony you please. We would like thou to be our ambassador for this for our last one has now retired."
"But why me? I mean why not someone who is better with politics?"
"We know what people think of politicians and how no pony likes them. So instead of getting a politician we decided to get someone that people will be able to relate to since thou art 'good at everything' or so we have been told. WE want sompony who can show how neighborly Equestria can be. And being a Pegasus thou will be able to travel much easier than any uncorn politician."
"Uh...I...don't know what to say...uh let me can I talk with my girlfriend about this?"
"We will give thee till morning"
"Thank you Princess," he said with a bow as the Princess exited his apartment. Color Wheel had to sit down, not only did a Princess of Equestria speak to him but she had also offered him a job. I need to talk to Wind Runner about this he thought as he stood up and flew to Wind Runner who was flying around the track.
"COLOR WHEEL!" she yelled as she flew over to him and giving him a hug and a kiss. "Why are you here? Shouldn't you be in Anato- Is something wrong dear?" she said noticing the look on his face.
"Yeah uh we need to talk." he said landing on the ground.
"Okay. What's the problem ? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah everything is fine it's just that...I got a job offer today from-"
"That's Great ! What's the job-"
"...from Princess Luna and-"
"Whoa whoa whoa, you talked to the Princess?!"
"Yeah she came up to me in the hall-"
"So your the one everypony is talking about!"
"Yeah, wait everypony is talking about me? Whatever," he said look at her "look the Princess offered me a job to be The Royal Ambassador and-"
"Did you accept the job?"
"No i didn't, that's why i came to yo-"
"You refused an offer from the Princess? That's not good thing to do i heard that-"
"Wind Runner!" he said sticking his hoof in her mouth and moving her head so he could look into her eyes,"Look I didn't accept the job YET i have until morning and i wanted to talk to you about whether i should take the job or not."
Taking his hoof out of her mouth, "You can talk now."
"...do you want to take the job?"
" I don't know I mean i get to travel a lot and see places all over Equestria and beyond but that means I'd hardly see you and-"

"I don't mind, maybe i could come with your on some of your trips"
"Maybe. But..i don't know i mean i'm guessing the pay is good. But then I'd be quitting my current job. And i don't know how long I'll be gone when i leave. Well i do get to see the Princesses on a regular basis I'd imagine. But politics is risky business especially when dealing with foreign countries. Plus if i screw up it might lead to war and i don't want to be the one responsible for starting a wa-" he stopped as Wind Runner kissed him. After several moments the stopped, "I..uh..."
"Look I want you to do what you want to do, I don't want to stop you from making your own decisions."
"..."
with a giggle," You can talk now."
"...I'll take the job."
"If that's what you want," she said as she kissed him on the cheek and flew back to the track to continue practicing for the Wonderbolt try outs next week.

In the morning Color Wheel met Luna outside his apartment. "Has thou considered our offer?"
"Yes I have Princess and I've decided that I'll gladly become Canterlot's Ambassador."
"Excellent then come with us to the palace, we have business to attend to."
" Yes your Majesty." As Luna took off Color Wheel looked back at his apartment and took off after her.

He didn't start with anything major mostly speaking to various government officials in Equestria about this and that. He and Wind Runner eventually bought a house not far from the palace after she had gotten into the Wonderbolts. And life is good for the two off them. When he's not off on his royal duties Color Wheel spends his time with Wind Runner and the Princesses, who had all become good friends.

Yeah, that's pretty interesting. Not to mention "coffee grains inside a party balloon" more or less describes Pinkie to a P.

However, I don't think it'd be particularly good for walking on. Any material thick and resilient enough to endure the wear and tear of walking would not be flexible or airtight enough to allow the system to work this well.

Back to the tumblr idea, I would also like to remove myself from the list of potential candidates for running it. Not because I don't want to, but because I am absolutely unreliable in any sort of continuous endeavor. Keep me as a backup if you want, but don't let me anywhere near the normal day-to-day controls.

Name: Southern Sky
Gender: Female
Cutie Mark: Dark cloud illuminated from above by three white four-point stars.
Type: Pegasus

Bio: Southern Sky was born in the suburbs of Las Pegasus, to a rather nondescript unicorn family, of whom she has fairly little recollection. Was decidedly average in flight school, and found herself fascinated less with flight itself, and more with the stars in the night sky and, even more strangely, "natural" weather patterns forming above uncontrolled areas and places like the Everfree. Lived a fairly normal life as a rookie of the Weather Patrol, being relocated to a new town every few years as her skills improved. Pursued her interests in astronomy and meteorology in secret, but eventually decided to try and make proper use of her talents. Unfortunately, unicorns dominated the field of astronomy research, and the concept of a pegasus who wanted to study "free" weather was, at best, met with confusion. Southern Sky lived for a while on revenue from a small cloud-based observatory she was running, but one day she had completely and mysteriously disappeared. No one had ever seen her since, and no one was concerned for her enough to think of looking into her absence.

Her actual fate is rather complex, as the Multiverse is involved. To sum it up, due to somewhat tragic and depressing circumstances, Southern Sky ended up being introduced to one "Multiverse Controller Sean Mirrsen", and moved to live on a world superficially similar to, but quite unlike Equestria. One where her desires to study the wonders of the sky were both appreciated and in demand. Even if she was the only pegasus pony in existence.

I don't know, isn't regular old skin perfectly good at exactly this? And probably not filled with coffee grinds, but ponies could have a thick layer of specialized cells with the same sorts of properties.

If it's magic, tactile telekinesis works a lot better, and allows to keep equine anatomy in a largely unaltered state. Some joint and bone structure alterations, extra musculature and weird nerve patterns in places, but all in all it'd at least still be a system that wouldn't fall apart and would remain functioning if suddenly bereft of magic.

So, as interesting as that development is for real-world robotics, I must say it's largely useless for ponies. Anything it can do, regular hooves + magic can do better.

Pony grip: I've always believed that, because they are made out of candy, they can emit a faintly sugary-sticky sweat over their hooves which acts as a mild adhesive.

@Thanqol: Seeing how you're in a review-y mood tonight, I may have something for you. See, I was almost done with the first chapter of the fic I was working on, when my prologue suddenly became Chapter 1, and Chapter 1 grew to Chapter 2. So the last 2/3s of what I have are fairly well finished, but the first bit is still a mite rough. I'm admittedly a little scared to show it off now, when I know there are still things to fix, but if you're in the mood for reviewing stuff, the offer stands.

Just popped in (been/still am busy between helping move sister and fiance out and watching Rock Lee's Springtime of Youth...) to note this.

This is absolutely fascinating.

Not only could it explain pony hooves, but the Powerpuff Girl's arms and even, heck, the Dalek's plunger-hands.
