Edaphosaurus could be fun. They're herbivorous cousins of Dimetrodon. While technically an amphibian,
Platyhystrix also has the basic body shape (but not the right size, being diminutive). Dimetrodon itself was published in Dragon #318 (a conversion from 3.0 to 3.5 can be found
