The impression I got was that reality warping was something very young ponies could do, and since Pinkie is so childish she retained those powers, but also could utilize them completely unlike an infant.

I think earth ponies are supposed to be just as magically capable as pegasi or unicorns. For AJ this manifests as a superior connection to the land and the ability to grow a bumper crop of apples. For Pinkie it manifests as crushing the laws of physics under her hooves.
