He knew he was pushing this just so that the demon will question whether Vivilandra's worth it, and may perhaps leave the deal alone. Not only that, but if he did question it, the dragon would know he wasn't serious about keeping Vivilandra safe. Still, he's dropped his new guest from the end. Picking them out himself was the best part anyhow.
