Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an extremely strong sequel to an extremely good game. You can really play it however you want: an infiltrator who spills no blood, a hacker who will charge around turning the security against his foes, a silent assassin who can pick enemies off but avoids big fights, or the classic guns-and-grenades Adam Jensen.

It's a great prequel with a lot of replay value through how you approach the game in terms of playstyle, and then in terms of dialogue. Some powers will let you get through dialogue with interesting outcomes, like an Augment that produces pheromones to influence opinions of others. Should you choose to use said pheromones on a certain (friendly) character, they take notice of it, and threaten to beat you up.
Though I can't speak to the Sam and Max series, I second this assessment of the Deus Ex HR. In fact I will go on to say that it is better than the original.

It rewards exploration well. The hidden stories and items add a great depth to the game. And the humor is amazing. Has everyone here read the "Concerning Chairs" email? or discovered the real reason why there is 4 or less emails in every inbox?
