That massive explosion made the hole far bigger than the diameter of a drill. If the drill itself wasn't damaged in the explosion, then the drill bit is simply spinning in the air right now. After all, Hell isn't solid, nor are the souls of the damned packed tightly under the surface ready to be siphoned out. They're distributed fairly widely throughout the Nine Circles, and only the First has been breached.

General Eshkila's soldiers continue to swarm up the ladders. Is anyone there to meet them when they climb out?
