The Halls of Mystery

Remember how much emphasis the book puts on the secrecy and taboo nature of Binding. You might get a mention of Syfal as a blasphemer who claimed contact to creatures beyond the reach of the gods, but actual details of Vestiges you will only find in heretical texts, or books like Daranax' Compendium of the Dark Arts someone like Wylam only trusts to store in a locked and guarded extradimensional space. I don't think simple curiosity is enough to stumble into Pact Magic through books because the warning signs will be plenty and clear. If you learn it from another Binder without realizing its taboo it would be more believable.

"Yes, that admittedly was a cheap one... What is your interest in her anyway? I can tell you're from Aglarond, but if you were on some official government business you'd already know what I told you."
The High House of Magic
"He was Dean of Abjuration before he became the Archmage. Specialist at creating wards. I hear whatever happens to pranksters trying to deface the building is quite humiliating", the knight answers. "What about you, by the way? Have you been on your own for long? I thought I had met most of our order active in this corner before."
A few people steal glances at the little gathering at the buffet, mostly directed at Rikrik, easily the most unusual guest present right now, who is currently feasting on cake with a certain lack of dignity.
A sizable number of guests are clearly wizards, about two thirds of them male. Others, from the looks of it, are a mix of nobles, merchants and assorted dignitaries. Aya recognizes Yustable Tarthree among the guests, and a surprisingly young, babyfaced man must be the ambassador of Procampur judging from his dress uniform. Letting her gaze wander, she notices Lord Blacktree in a black field marshal uniform in the opposite side of the room, and while she never saw the man before, it is a good guess the old greybearded man next to him missing his right arm is the Lord Mayor, Charles O'Kane.
