The problem is, Dota threads die out because there is not a lot of discussion to be had (unlike a certain other game).

I wouldn't say that at all. DotA2 has plenty of strategy and esport discussion to be had. It's really more the smaller community surrounding it that kills the threads due to it being a closed beta right now.
