Elestre stands his ground, digging his hooves deeply into the sand. "Finder, this is important. In fact, mister ghoul here might not mind standing with us here if he could blow up a few slavers, hmm?"

He's making a critical judgement here, based on what he's seen and leaping to a conclusion. The ninja must not be with the slavers, since he hasn't tried to help them and in fact has passed up many opportunities to capture them. If he's wrong, then Elestre's got his trusty stick, hasn't he?
