We have no clue at this point. The cherubs start on a room in a Ectobiology Lab meteor (not unlike the one the trolls have been hiding in). The presence of Rose's book (with Dave and Karkat's "art" and Gamzee's editing) suggests that it IS the trolls' meteor, but we've seen things where they have no right being since John showed that he had a ~ath manual in his closet.

Caliborn's actions did nothing but destroy a planet that was already well and properly destroyed (beta Earth), so his entrance into the game didn't doom his species.
