Also, to my knowledge that special bond, at least in a familiar's case, is formed to fill the void of the reclusive practice regimen, and study of magic. We can deduce from this that a wizard/sorcerer who is lonely is far more likely to conjure a magical companion in this fashion than a spellcaster with a healthy social/personal life.
