I took over an NPC (I think I was the first to do so? One of the first) And I couldn't be happier. NPCs are very interesting and delving into their history and interactions and importance in the game is, imo, far more interesting than making your own nation with no history but what you give it. I would also wager we've retained more people who take up NPCs than start fresh in recent times.
