But seriously, if nothing else it shows she's at least smart enough to read and understand the purpouse of books, something we haven't seen the other Goblins understand. they can read clearly, but they've never been shown with books to my knowledge. Plus as a storyteller it's a common trope to stick too if you want to show intelligence.
As for complains, intelligence isn't neccicarily genetic, he might have the capacity to be as smart as his mother was, but he just never uses or bothered with it in favour of being who he is today. You still need to learn everything your parents know, just because your mom knows how to cook when you're born doesn't mean you're going to be born knowing how to cook.
