Carlisle charges across the empty air to the golem and cuts at it. His sword barely chips the magically hardened glass, but the dark cloud of magic surrounding the blade flows into it. The structure of the glass golem seems to catch and bend the magic the same as it refracted the light, warping it back against the cleric. Meanwhile, Ishkin twists his way through the air and bites at it, his teeth just barely managing to find purchase on the glass. Instantly, the serpent wraps his coils around the golem.

The smokestick doesn't completely block the beam of light. It does, however, diffuse the beam enough that it doesn't seem physically hazardous. Rather than a concentrated beam, it's merely an area of particularly bright light.

The golem struggles to stay in the air, but ultimately manages it, and lashes out at both Ishkin and Carlisle.
