Fiona is an important character, as close as you can get to the main antagonist of that game.
My Life as King directly references the events of FFCC as the plot is how they will now rebuild since there is no longer miasma everywhere, while monsters have to face the prospect of being pushed outside civilization again.
The Crystal Bearers, the official SEQUEL, does have a link of sorts but is tenuous and the game REALLY bad.

It's implied the Yuke city in the edge of oblivion is Shella.
The prequels which are ... passable since they are just run-of-the-mill RPGs do have a REALLY strong connection, since RTR is the main hub in the games.
