Any place where you've got some dwarves and the least bit of concentrated wealth, you'd expect there to be a nice mostly-open walkway channeled into the side of the cliff well below jungle height... except where there are savage and hostile areas that will harass such walkways. It's all just big enough for a person to comfortably jog along, or less comfortably let someone else squeeze by you (else you'd have animals living on it,) until they have to climb a bunch of stairs the take the "less risky" jungle path for most of the stretch they want to bypass.
