41)types of mages
The term mage is used to refer to magic users of any type. A wizard is generally used to refer to magic users who are official in the eyes of the state which means either that they payed an agency money, had formal training, or are simply at the behest of the government. A witch(whether this refers to females only is a point of contention) is generally someone who has had informal training in the magic arts, often from a parent or another witch. The public opinion on witches varies wildly some romanticizing them others despise them but they often come at a lower price than a wizard. A shaman is used to either refer to a male witch or a witch who comes from an uncivilized area. Sorcerers are usually mages without training and are suprisingly common. An arch mage is a magic user who is regarded to be one of the most powerful in the fissure. This does not necessarily mean that they are wizards but often time they are given a noble title if they pledge loyalty to a kingdom.

Ok how was that?
