Sanctum and Sanctum 2 were pretty good in co-op from memory, I'm pretty sure you just use your steam logins to invite the other and it works.

I seem to recall the second one had a mildly obnoxious Yogscast dlc, but it is a decent enough first person shooter tower defence game despite that.
