The people around him are not just his past, they are his present. Mist knows Message is still with him right now. And they'll be there for him in the morning. As will his family and the friends that are still around. They, more than most things make him happy. And he makes them happy, and that's what he considers to be good in the world.
Of course he also likes other things, like running, so while making these ruminations he takes time for a nice jog around the outlines of the tracks, because he can. But that's only momentary pleasure.
