Stores habitually overstock on seasonal sweets during the specific season in order to keep up with the demand while selling them at higher markup, then sell what's left at a lower markup to get rid of it to make room for the next seasonable candy.

Like if you ever want a whole bunch of cheap candy head to a Walmart at six in the morning on November 1st.
