Non sense again. A temporary city is better than no one at all, and someone could have reclaimed in the meantime. So Why?
Maybe because if Gobwin Knob falls, and Stanley became Barbarian, he can make a new side that would be NOT a Plaid one. So he could name his side something lame like "The Toolwielders"?
