1) You mean photons, not protons.
2) Destroying photons would completely mess with physics in a very, very bad way from what I understand. You don't want to do that.
Repelling protons is a much more feasible mechanic. Even better would be a mechanic which allows you to place "objects" to obstruct light. Said "objects" would not actually exist, but the power could work as if they did- essentially, you'd be able to create barriers which blocked light but were otherwise non-interactive, and then you'd be able to manipulate those barriers to be wider, smaller, more or less translucent. That kind of thing.
It would allow for a varied and useful power which nonetheless has limits, and is very easily defined.
