The initiate could not help but smile, but the situation puzzled him. The way everyone described Halby Jr., like Halbermann only younger... Did the children of the Flüchtling Fields even know what the sergeant looked like? And were they observant enough to notice the ressemblance of his alleged son?

"Um. Did he have a beard?" asked Pieter.

Two possibilities occurred to him: perhaps Halby Jr. had gone out of his way to make sure everyone knew of his blood ties with the sergeant, going so far as to point it out, maybe even telling the children to describe him as "looking like the sergeant"... or perhaps the bastard story was a complete fabrication.
