I handwave these things. Exalted manage to tap into a slightly different energy in the Nexus? (Actually, respire- they tap into their own reserves and recover it over time)

Basically, I treat it as 'the Nexus doesn't suddenly depower anyone put into it'.

How about all Exalted have to drink blood to regain essence, not just abyssals?

No, clearly the Nexus has respirable essence because it's part of every setting at once.
