Suddenly the small shield on her left arm seemed rather unfit. She goes through her pack and draws a dirty scrolls, carefully chanting while the beast gets closer.

"So we'll wait for your spell, got it." She reaches at the crossbow at her side and loads it, ready for this gray giant to show up.

Kathoplizo is finally able to find a good angle at which he can observe the creature and in a split second he sees the object of the creature's rage. Several hobgoblins already litter the ground all the way up the trail, their bodies literally torn apart. One more hobgoblin is running down the trail away from the creature, and it seems as if his lighter chain is the only reason that the Gray Render hasn't caught up with him yet. Cursing and gibbering the hobgoblin breaks into a dash and the creature follows suit in a lumbering ape-like way, it's arms smashing into the earth to help propel it forwards.

They quickly begin to overtake Kathoplizo's position at their speed, and the cleric can easily tell that it will only be a minute before the two reach the rest of your group. At his full speed the cleric might be able to rejoin his comrades just as the Render meets them.

Meanwhile, Jorr starts grabbing the reins from everyone.

"What the hell are ya doin', ya can't fight so close to the damn horses! @#*& me, but if that's a Render it'll panic them the instant it comes into sight."

He begins pulling the horses back down along the path and begins tying them to a stout tree off the path.

"@*&#@(! hell, you lot better be a damn sight better at fightin' than you were at me cabin. I don't want to have to watch you get torn in half!"

Your preparations are made just in time, as another tree shaking roar announces the arrival of the Render. Just around a bend in the road a hobgoblin warrior wearing a set of chain over a crimson coloured shirt comes running towards you and less than a score of feet behind him a massive grey form lumbers into full view and roars again.

    "BRAAAOOGH!!!"

Though slouching forwards in an ape-like posture it still stands a full ten feet tall at the shoulder with a tough, weatherworn hide and great sword-like teeth that lend credence to it's name. As it screams you all see torn shards of metal armor jutting from between teeth and stuck in the sides of it's mouth.

Gore covers most of its form, especially the head and arms, but none of it appears to be it's own. The only indication of any kind of wound is a small flap of skin hanging from it's belly. The six eyes atop it's head orange and oval-shaped, curiously without lids or irises, but despite the odd design it clearly takes in your group. Or rather, it does before Alain's spell goes off and a sparking haze descends over it's skull.

In fury it whips it's head back and forth, and even paws at it's eyes for a moment before it bares it's fangs in your direction.

Sparing a quick glance back the hobgoblin takes note of the sparkling motes doing something to the Render, and he turns to frown at you all.

"Khyber's #*&^, I'll let you people deal with it."

Moving stuningly quickly the hobgoblin darts towards you and then jumps off of the path into the bushes. He expertly begins weaving through the trees in order to put off any ranged fire that you might have as he clearly tries to leave the scene of the impending battle.

Alain only, make another Arcana check.

Garuk lumbers forwards in his newly enlarged form and gives his own bellow. Curiously, as soon as the warblade steps within a few dozen feet of the Render it whips it's head towards him and flares it's nostrils.

Alain ponders the situation, leaving the others to act before him for the moment, leaving Traeth able to step up to the plate and send a blast of sparkling energy at the Render. The blast burns a patch of hide on the Render's shoulder but it doesn't even seem to notice the hit.

Tethys leaps after the hobgoblin and is able to duck under the orange-skinned warrior's hand axe chop. When she keeps circling around him the hobgoblin spins with his first attack and his second blow just barely misses cracking into her shoulder.

Jorr swears yet again and runs into the forest to help Tethys. As he moves with practiced ease through the underbrush he slips his bow onto his back and draws his shortsword.

"I'll give ya a hand lass, can't get a shot off at the Render yet."

Uncertain of how his actions can best serve the group, Kathoplizo pauses while Arianna steps into the brush to engage her most hated foe. Though she can't move quickly enough in the brush to get a strike off she brandishes her double scimitar with a grin and promises it swift death.

The render, clearly hearing Garuk's cry and the thuds of the enlarged orc's feet bursts towards the warblade with it's mouth almost impossibly wide and arms reaching for him. Despite the blinding lights of Alain's spell the creature grabs onto both of his arms and slams it's maw into his left shoulder. Luckily the Render can't seem to get a good hold on Garuk due to his new size, and after painfully bruising both of the warblade's biceps and puncturing the armor around his collarbone in two places the creature leans back from it's attack with a growl and again paws at it's eyes.

As Garuk recovers from the three blows he notices that the diamond placed on his armor by Alain is glowing softly, and indeed it seems to have done exactly as described, softening the blows taken from the Render.

    Round 2

The hobgoblin, seeing that he won't be getting away unless he fights his way out, takes another hack at Tethys but his hatchet catches only air.

Traeth tries to get a better bead on the Render with his eldritch spear, and even though it has closed the gap and entered into a viscous melee battle with Garuk his aim is true. Another patch of blackened hide shows where the blast hits, but again the Render is hardly paying attention.

Rolling through the thick underbrush is an easy enough task for Tethys, but the hobgoblin is easily able to duck back from her stab despite the help from Arianna's threatening blade. Jorr rushes up to aid her and even tucks into a roll to try and come up under the hobgoblin's guard, but the warrior anticipates the lunge and knocks aside the trapper's short sword with

Garuk, Alain, Arianna and Kathoplizo still have to act this round. Kathoplizo can take a retroactive turn for last round as well.

Would you change me to a really bright pink so I don't get mixed up now? For the retro turn he'll double move to B5 or C5, if B5 doesn't let him get the shot off, and this turn he'll loose the breath, either using the last roll, or Ill roll ooc if you wish.

Kathoplizo flashes bright pink for a moment in a strange display as he wings his way forwards under the heavy branches of thick fir and maple trees. Coming alongside of the Render he closes his eyes briefly in prayer and then sends his own roar at the creature, one that freezes the moisture in the air around it forming a rime of frost on it's left side.

Garuk stabs his sword into the Render's shoulder and rips the blade back out, revealing dark red flesh beneath the Render's gray hide. For the first time in the fight the Render responds to an injury, shrieking with pain so loudly that the branches around you shake from the force.

Spitting out a word of arcane activation Alain aims his wand directly at the Render's head and a wave of colour washes about the creature. When the cone washes over to no effect Alain can tell for a fact that his original blinding spell was effective, even going so far as shielding it's eyes from the illusory spell.

Arianna takes advantage of the flank provided by Tethys and spins her double scimitar at the hobgoblin, catching him under one armpit with an upwards strike and cutting a gash down his face with the backhand stroke. Grunting in pain he remains standing but his skin turns a noticeable shade lighter as a good deal of his blood now litters the forest floor.

The Render slams it's jaws into the warblade for the second time. Again the teeth dig through the orc's armor to find flesh underneath, but with a great shove Garuk is able to keep it from doing too much damage. Repulsed, the Render swings both arms in Alain's direction, and both hands claw divots from the earth near one of the wizard's doubles.

    Round 3

Snarling at his wounds the hobgoblin spares a moment to spit towards Tethys.

"It's berserk, we didn't do anything to it!"

Though surrounded the hobgoblin makes a desperate leap, trying to twist himself around the flashing blades of everyone around him. Jorr makes a half-hearted stab with his sword but again is put off by the goblonoid's agility. Being an expert evader herself Tethys has no trouble tracking his roll through the air and has an unmatched chance to stab where he will be...

Tethys can make an AoO on the hobgoblin and then I'll resolve his movement.

    Partial update...

Tethys angles her sword to catch the hobgoblin in mid-tumble and her aim has never been better. The sword slides cleanly through his side, and his graceful roll turns into a sprawl as the chilling effect of Tethys' sword stops his heat.

Garuk tries to batter at the Render's Shoulder as if his sword were a maul, but as it pulls back from attacking Alain with it's claws it knocks the blow out of line with one flailing arm.
