I was wondering if you could tell me what in wildfire is going on with the ship turning course and the medbay kicking everyone out and all passengers being confined to their cabins - I mean, the cheek of it all, to order everyone to hole up in their cabins while who-knows-what is happening - and anyway, yeah. What's happening?"

Confining everyone to their cabins? I never...

Hang on, I've heard that voice before. You're Llyrid, right? Did I hear you say something about weaponry, back in the port? You know how to handle a weapon?

"Yep! Best shot in the ISS! You need a brace of pistols and an expert in their use, Amleth?"

Oh, yes. I'm trying to get a group together, to back up a security team

If you know anyone else, bring them along. Meet me in the casino lobby, deck A.

"You gotcha, Amleth! Casino lobby, deck A? I'll be there - you can count on it!"

She turns to Robert as she pulls out her brace of pistols and straps an Aryn Fang to her thigh for good measure. "You want to come, Robert? I'm sure it's going to be lots of fun!"

She rushes out the door without waiting for a response, dashing down to deck A.

Robert

"Hmmh? What's going on?" Robert looks up from the minicomp. Seeing that she's already gone, he shrugs, closes the computer and retrieves his gauss gun and an extra clip from the bottom of his suitcase. Holstering it and pulling a leather coat on it, he sprints after her.

Smiling, Amleth changes the line. This time back to the MedBay. Her voice is not humorous though

George. Why did you order every single passenger to be confined to their room?

[Krrth]

Ma'am? I didn't. I passed along the order to Russo, to pass along to the captain, so they knew what was going on.

Russo!

Erica so deeply wants to scream. Still, she channels it, simmering slightly.

Well, looks like it's being blamed on us. Ho hum. I've just been speaking to the Capitan, and we should have something done soon.

With that, she hangs up... and notices the StarForce official looking irate at a computer.

Aha! Lieutenant... Commander, right? Just the person I wanted to see... have you a weapon with you?

James blinked rapidly, then quickly went and grabbed his needler and slipped it in his large vest. He put on his traveling clothes, full with many pocketed vest and large hat. He also grabbed his field tools, who knew what he would need.

He walked out and hurried to follow Bianca.

Tamro looked up from the book he was reading while laying on his bunk. Something was up; the ship had changed speed and direction. Shaking his head, he stood up and walked over to the comm, attempting to raise the bridge and get some idea of what was going on. He liberally threw his rank around, hoping to get some quick answers.

Ah, Doctor, just the person I was trying to track down, he said with a sharp toothed grin. Why is it that you're trying to contact me? Has it anything to do with why we've changed course a day or so back and are now stopped? And yes I do have several back in my cabin, but the ship's security should have more than enough personnel to handle whatever is going on. Shouldn't they? he asks with a bit of concern in his voice.

All the PC's have been contacted and have arrived in the Casino Lounge. On the viewscreen, a Betron class ship floats next to your own.

James leaned towards the viewscreen "Erm, ships aren't my thing. What exactly am I looking at"

Apparently, a medical emergency. That's what it's broadcasting, anyway

Erica looks over at it, not smiling

However, that's all we know. The security team sent over to check it out haven't reported back.

However, it was small. This time, the Captain's resolved to send a larger team. With backup.

She looks over the group, obviously awaiting questions.

"Exactly what do we know about this situation? You say you sent a security team - what happened to them? Surely you must have some information - radio discussions, tagged clothes to know their exact location, heat scan of the ship et cetera." Robert frowns.

"Surely you are not suggesting sending a group of people to an environment that is potentially contaminated with lethal bacteria or viruses? Or, an option not too farfetched, a booby trap set by space pirates? I would propose that you call a better-equipped ship to deal with this.

Erica frowned

There are such things as enviromentally sealed suits, Mr... excuse me, who are you again?

Anyway, as I understand it, everything was fine as they entered the airlock. Then the comms simply went dead. As to heat scans and body tags.. not my department. If we have that sort of infomation it wasn't covered in the briefing

She trails off there, and shrugs

None of you are obliged to do anything. I was trying to get some voulenteers together who knew how to handle guns, to make doubly sure that this opperation goes ok. We've already approached this thing, after all, and if whatever's on that ship is a potential risk to more regular passengers...

[Adumbration]

"... If whatever's on that ship is a potential risk to more regular passengers, you should not risk them at all. The safest way would be to back out and leave to minimize any risks, and call in the coordinates to professionals. But you're not going to do that, are you? Why?"

"Oh, and my name is Robert Jennings. And those environmentally sealed suits apparently didn't do much for your men. What was the medical emergency about, anyway? Didn't they give any details?"

Because, if whatever it is is active, we could still be under threat if we backed away. Anyway, we have no idea what's going on in there. Only that it cuts comms. And short range comms, the ship's still broadcasting a general signal, specifying medical emergency. An emergency signal, not a transmission.

Perhaps everyone on board is dead, and it's a matter for StarForce. Or perhaps, some are still alive for now, and intervention may be able to help. Security are professionals, and I think one or two of you are handy with guns. If there are people on there, would you feel comfortable knowing you'd let them die?

And viruses don't generally cut comms. They could even still be alive in there.

He straigtened his vest "I just hope violence isn't necassary, I detest violence"

I wouldn't have thought so. Would Pirates know how to interfere with short range comms like that? Why'd they even want to? Long range, perhaps, but short?

No, at a guess, I'd say this was some kind of technical failure, something going wrong on the bridge, and somehow blocking short range comms, and normal transmissions.. Still, as we've got no actual idea, best to take account of all eventualities.

James looks slightly bolstered "No matter, I hope it doesn't but you can count on me to help" he shrugged "Perhaps not much, but I can be a capital distraction"

The security detail was equipped with Vac suits,stunners, and medikits. There appears to be no sign of jamming: that would result in static. There simply is no signal at all.


The Betron class has three decks, and a standard crew of 15. It can hold a maximum of 44 passengers, with and additional 10 cold sleep pods. It is an armed merchantman, usually found in colonial space.

Arriving in the casino dressed in his military vacsuit he carries a large duffel with him,Lieutenant Commander Romow reporting as requested doctor. He says with a sharp salute. It could be a technical glitch. But once they docked with the ship it instantly "infected" all the away team's systems as well? Not likely. I think there's something on that ship that's actively doing this.

Tamra enters the casino, wearing his civvies with a pistol worn on his hip. He glances around at the others before nodding to the doctor. "Tamra Lerris, Engineer 2nd class, reporting for duty. I hear you have a problem of some sort with a ship outside? Is that correct?"

David Hardin

David walks into the Casino, closely followed by Sputnik. After hearing some of the conversation, he introduces himself to Erica, acknowledging that she seems to be the one in charge.

Good day, Doctor. It seems you have a problem in your hands. My name is David Hardin, Engineer, and I'm here to help in whatever way I can.

I may not know a lot in the way of guns, although I have used a needle pistol once or twice, and may or may not have one at my disposal should the need arise, but my area of expertise is ships, and that knowledge may come in handy if you are planing on going in.

Also, Sputnik here may be of even further assistance if anything is going wrong with the ship itself.

What you see on the screen is a Betron class ship, tipically accomodating fortysomething passengers, 15 crewmen, and 10 extra passengers in cold sleep. It is not heavily armed, but it is armed, wich is probably more than we can say for this cruiser. The most likely occupation for such a ship would be a merchant fleet.
