Broken in between her words are the sobs of the child spirit, frightened and lonely because it's being ignored.

Deryni buries her head in her knees and cries, her sobs alternating between her own husky voice and the child's terrified wails.

Melody goes to the training room. She begins throwing daggers at a target.

Oh, pull yourself together. What's done is done, and the least we can do is make sure the boy goes to his proper fate.
She doesn't snap or raise her voice or sound in any other way irritated, but it's a close run thing.

Raven follows Melody. Unless she asks for some time alone, he's her constant shadow.

Melody continues to practice. She smiles at Uncle Raven. How'm I doing, Uncle.

Deryni doesn't resist the tapping, and tries to stay still, but she does scream. A lot.

Lex watches in horror. She fliues off to get some water, knowing the woman would need it after all that screaming.

Melody is hitting around the bullseye of all her targets. After a bit, she sets up moving targets.

The soul of a little girl begins to leave Deryni's body. She's crying.

"A handgun will do the most damage at the greatest range, but it's good to be able to use any weapon that comes to hand. That was smart thinking, Melody." Raven says.

The soul fragment leaves her body. There is a flash of bright blue light, and it's gone.

Lex appears with a glass of water, which she slides into the cell.

The fire finishes up. It's not that slow.
