Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
Okay, so the next, most immediate, plot battle is against the Shades Castle. Before we do that, we need to re-animate Threeshades.
I've got a page to make and college starts up again Monday, but I'll see about getting that much done soon.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
"How fast can Salmon fly?" asks a question about the abilities of the character. "What is Salmon's Flight Speed?" asks what the given statistic for that character is, and "Flight Speed" is a value used by the D&D system. By using given statistics, we limit ourselves to follow the rules of that system.
The majority of characters in ABR are based on the D&D system, so it is reasonable to assume you meant Flight Speed in the context of that system.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
It's something around 30 km/hour, as I mentioned in my previous post.
I agree (although I don't like the term "mechanic"; it sounds limiting), but when you said that Avbaroy was "based" on the D&D system, it sounded as if it was almost the only factor.Last edited by Mad Mask; 2009-01-03 at 05:15 PM.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
I honestly expected the landfish to be varying from 8-12 km/h on an average "walking speed" pace.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
[justifying]That's the maximum speed of the fastest Flying Landfish, the Little Trout. Other Landfish are much slower. And keep in mind that many other animals fly faster than that. Also, there are many other things more improbable to the speed of an animal that is suspiciously identical to some Earth-based chordate and supposedly evolved on its own a gas pocket and lost wings that enabled it to fly faster. And a human, who is legged-bound, has been faster than that (48 km/h).[/justifying]
I based my calculation of the speed of the Flying Fish, but since Flying Landfish are more like blimps, I'm probably erroneous.Last edited by Mad Mask; 2009-01-03 at 05:25 PM.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
Until we get final word on that from salmon, I'd say we use the max speed of a RL atlantic salmon, about 30kph/20mph.
Or your estimate.
You enjoy being pedantic, don't you?
Bayar probably meant per D&D round, which is about 6 seconds. D&D speed is jogging speed, with x4 for running and x.5 for walking.
30 ft/round is around 3.5 mph, so 14 mph at running speed.Last edited by kpenguin; 2009-01-03 at 05:32 PM.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XVI: Matters of Futures Imperfect
To be honest, I based my estimate on the flying speed of a Flying Fish, who, according to Lyinginbedmon, is one of the ancestors to the Flying Landfish. These can reach speeds of more than 60 kph, but I found 30 kph more reasonable.
V: Per six seconds ? Why six seconds ? Shouldn't it be more reasonable to say "per minute" or "per hour" ?Last edited by Mad Mask; 2009-01-03 at 05:32 PM.
