Default Gods of Mortals - IC

As with all things universal, you had always been. Existing as much as each galaxy, each star, each atom.

Eternity. You had no beginning and you will have no end. You are an entity of power, of energy, of being. You have watched the galaxies form and the universe grow, content on observing all that existed, knowing all that had been known.

But there was something changing within the universe and it called out to you. Drawn by the call, you approached a swirling mist in near the edge of one of the universes many galaxies. And you soon realized that you were not alone.

All the others that existed as your equal had been drawn to this very spot as well. But there was nothing here, at least, not yet. But what had called to you? Had you not seen all that there was in the universe? Did you not already know all there was to know? Something that had not been observed, not been named, not yet existed was to be born here. This very spot pulsed with the unseen power.

    Life.

The word had no meaning. Still, it promised to bring something new to the universe and that could not be ignored.

Never before had you exerted your will on anything, never before had you wanted to do such. And now the urge to create had overtaken your very being! And the desire would not go unheeded!

    Spoiler
    Show

    Turn length:1-5 billion years

You are all going to create the solar system. That's right, there is no sun, there is no rock, there is nothing but swirling dust.

How this will work. You can effect any and all parts of the construction of the system. However, you can never undo another god's influence as you are all equal. Instead, the combined effect will meet halfway.

    EXAMPLE:
    Spoiler
    Show

God1 wishes to engulf the entire planet in water.
God2 wishes there to be land above the water

Net effect - half the planet will be ocean.

God3 and God4 wish also to have more land above the water

Net effect - 1/4 of the planet will be ocean.

God5 wishes to have more ocean

Net effect - 2/5 of the planet will be ocean.

Try not to make your god seem emotional during this process. Simply wonder why the others do not wish to see it created as you would.

And you can influence the planet up to and including the creation of sentient creatures (cats, dogs, fish, etc.) but you may not create sapient creatures (mortals, humans, etc.) during this first turn.

    Tangential note:
    Spoiler
    Show

I hate how people use sentient when they mean to use sapient. But I never feel it is worth it to correct them. So, hopefully I have shed some light for those who might not have known the difference! And you better not use these words incorrectly in my game as the universe can be very cruel...

And Rashin looked across the void, and saw only emptiness. And he laughed, and he curled around himself in the void. And he flicked back his tail and lifted his paws from his new creation.

Lo and behold, he had made for himself a body - one of rock and stone, his bones and his teeth. And he willed that his blood should cover his bones, and raging seas covered the earth that he had created.

Rashin looked up, at the empty void above his body. This was not right. He willed it to be so, and created a sphere of silver that glowed with inner light. The soft, silver glow fell upon his body, lighting it up for all to see.

And Rashin laughed, for the game had begun and the dance would begin. Truly, what is the fox without the rabbits to hunt and the wolves to trick?

    Spoiler

And Fiergon... Rashin is always emotional. Did you mean, no squabbling or fighting over creation?

The peace of the Void had been disturbed. Ripples of that action flowed, changed, and spread across the emptiness. Where nothing had been, now stood two objects. One of those objects was covered in...something that called him/her/it closer. He/She/It resisted for now, and wondered what his/her/its brother/sister/sibling was doing. Perhaps.....yes, we needed light. The being who would one day be known as Sarathalus called the light from the stars, and surrounded the new planet with them. The illumination was very faint, but one day the beings to come would be able to navigate by them.

Thinking about beings, Sarathalus broke off bits of him/her/it's self and spread them across the surface. Life formed, not even aware of it's self yet, but there. Singe celled creatures spread and multiplied across the water.

Kaeltha saw what the gods had done, and with his divine power he did rip part of himself off, and created an orb. It was grey, but it emitted light. It was dark, but bright. It would supply light to those things that lived upon the Universe, and would be the centre of the universe, as its immense size dictated. Kaeltha looked upon his creation, and saw that it was good. He also looked upon the planet, and saw that it was green and blue. "THIS WILL NOT DO" he thought, and made it so some of the land was darker, almost as if it were blighted.

Rashin looked down, and saw that half his body had become dark. He chuckled, and danced in the other half of the land. And it was vibrant and bright, as colorful as the darkness of the other half.

    The Blue Star

Lord Virgo's light spread across the sky.
A massive, swirling vortex of magical energy could be seen on the future planet once every quarter of a year.

No one knows how Lord Virgo spread the energy across the universe. Some say it was through his wise ways of magic. Others say it was the brute force of his mystical energies. Still others say that Lord Virgo's purity of spirit naturally leeked into the material universe as it was being created. Regardless, a now vast, intangible star formed out of pure sorcery was now seen waxing and waning over four times a year. It would wane in Autumn and Winter, and then wax bright during the Spring and Summer. During times of great evil it would do the exact opposite.

Orion traveled the world, but when he came close to the water surface, he felt uncomfortable. He was sad to discover that the entire planet was covered in that substance. It was simply too wet! And so, he sought more dryness for himself. To achieve this balance, Orion decided to rais massive landmasses from the ocean floor.

He then looked upwards and saw the sun for the first time. Something was wrong about it...

Yakru saw the planet, for really, it was the only thing to see. He was disappointed with the color that was chosen for the sun. It was so drab and boring... making the planet look drab and boring. And even without the grey sun, parts of the planet were drab and boring. This simply would not do!

He made his way to the sun and bobbed up and down. He would color it, that was it! He would not change it nor stake no claim to it, for then it would be his, and that took the fun out of everything.

He fed some of the color of his own form into the sun. While the orange goldish color mingled with the grey, he decided to let it stir for a bit while he ran off to cause more constructive mischief.

He saw the planet, and it just sat there, like some cosmic brick without any life or personality save for the dancing colors. He swooped down and around and around, spinning the planet and sent it orbiting around the sun, rotating as it did so. He also gave the planet a good bump, tilting its axis of rotation.

Settling down Yakru looked at Rashin's moon and sent it after the planet so that it may circle it, just as the planet circled the sun. Yakru was delighted with the dance these cosmic bodies began to perform.

It was good. Those little bits of life, were multiplying and growing. Fascinated, he watched at they spread over the waters. When the land rose from the depths, life was brought with it. He/she/it decided it needed to grow as well. Taking some of the land, he moistens it and crumbles some of it. The resultant dirt and soil proved to be a fertile home for the little specks of life. However, something was missing. Unlike the water, the soils was missing necessary ingredients for success. Oxygen! That was what was missing. So, He/She/It created Air covering the planet.

The Ur Alpha liked how things were going, but was far from content. Things were too still, too stagnant. Where was the conflict? The world bored the godling, who would have none of it.

Like a comet, Ur Alpha shot across the heavens, strafing the land to tear into it with divine presence. A canyon formed in the wake of the beast of war, with mountain ranges rippling out. Ur Alpha pulled up partway in to the continent to see what progress had been made.

    Slunush

It crossed the void, unaware of why, its consciousness self-absorbed by ideas, concepts and dreams yet to fulfill. It took time but it eventually reached its destination, answering to the silent Call which had compel it to travel.

Not that this displeased it. It...how could it express it ? "Like" to travel. To burn energy while exploring the emptiness, letting the flames which covered its shape drop their deep blue light.

    When it saw them.
First was the gloomy point, radiating from afar, growing larger as it closed. Then this single piece of rock, hanging there, half of it dark and sinister while the other half was flashy and comforting...and around it, that even brighter rock. Both bodies orbited the gray one, without purpose.

    "-Purpose ? What's that for ?"
The nameless being staid silent for a moment. Had he... So far, he had never felt the need nor knew that he could express himself. "He" ? Was it...was HE something else than burning energy, traveling the void ? Has he a "purpose" ?

Not knowing the answer, he still decided to add his own touch to the local anomaly. From his body, nine wild balls of compressed gas hurled themselves across the cosmos, each emitting an intense heat as its content was lit ablaze.

The comets took their time, circling around the larger brother of gray light. It took millions of years but eventually, one of them met the little rocks...which, this close, weren't that little anymore. Dodging the satellite, the burning mass of hydrogen dived toward the planet. The two astral bodies crashed into each other and for a few hours, water and fire mixed as the comet dug its way deep to the core of the rock...and then collapsed, releasing tremendous amount of burning materials through the cracks of the planet. As the time passed, the pression built up and eventually broke loose. On the oceans, small patches of land appeared, with smoking peaks towering above them.

The Volcanoes : They are the result of building pressure inside the Magma Core so, no act ?

And Rashin laughed, for he did not even have to do his work - his fellows clamored to do it themselves! Ai-yai, already his bones had been shaped into fangs and hollows; already his body spun and leapt; already there was life in his blood.

But there was still more to do, ever more to do! He created his fur, green and red and brown, covering his body. Where he danced and ran, there his fur grew and flourished. Thick patches existed, black and green, and he loved those best.

He ran in the air, and his laughter sang across his body swiftly, rippling through his fur.

As the plants bloomed and grew, the Ur Alpha saw a war being waged in the sky. The air the plants took in was being overtaken by the air the plants expelled as waste. While a one-sided thrashing is entertaining here and there, it wasn't a proper conflict. For such a thing, an endless war as called for.

So, the Ur Alpha gazed upon the tiny, growing things that had been cast down by one of the other gods. With this gaze, there was power. The living things swelled, and became the mindless beasts that roamed the land. They would take in what the plants expelled, and give off what plants took in. The War of Wind had begun in earnest, and shall last forever!

Kaeltha looked down, from his patient station atop the dim sun, and he saw that these gods, they had sprung life on the planet, this, he thought, is something interesting at last!. And so he descended, and looked upon the land. The ground he had converted, yes it was still dark and morbid, but it lacked, most ironically, life at all. So he willed the land, and some dark beasts arose. Much like a furry canine, they're fur was dark and their eyes white. They howled and wandered, but Kaeltha did not like this, as he was, if nothing else, a being of Law. So he did alter them so that they did not quarrel, they did not fight among each other, they lived peacefully with eachother, and the beings of the land. But for all the peace he gave them, he also made them animals capable of Combat. They had claws, the size of heads, teeth the size of limbs and they themselves were about yae high. He saw these animals, and he did name them, and he looked and he named them as he would all his creations, for they were Depelaw.

Still nameless, the burning blue ball felt somehow happy as the lifeless rock sprang to life. The endless water was now pushed back by the lands as various forces worked to mold the stone into continents and islands. The original blue was now mixed with brown, then with green as the flora spread.

His divine senses taught him that some magic had fuse the original bacterias into larger beings. These were now evolving faster than what the cosmos was used to. What to think of these animals, which lived and died after only a few stellar revolutions while it took thousands of such revolution for anything else to achieve something ?

    “-I think it's good.”
“I”. The “he” was gone from his thoughts. Was his spirit infected by so much life that he felt a need for individuality ? For personality ? Anyway, he felt the process was impossible to stop...and he wasn't sure he would have stopped it if it was possible. He liked the way it felt.

“-Are they others like me, down there ? If not, how to explain such things ?”
And so, he decided to speed the Creation a little more.

Underwater, cracks appeared on Rathin's skin, which began to glide slowly atop the lava, diffusing heat all along the way of the cracks. It encouraged life in the depths where light was absent. Plankton seemed to thrive like never before, providing plenty of food for the crabs and fishes, which grew in size.

On the volcanic islands, the occasional eruptions destroyed whole forests but let a highly fertile ground afterwards, helping life to start again with even more vigor. And from the ashes of each burned generation, new ones soon grew, each time more complex and rich as they fed upon their parents.

But yet, it wasn't enough. One set of land couldn't feed more than a given amount of creatures and even so, they had to either remain small and miserable or to grow large but be few in number. And so he casted in the largest of the animals the need to travel, to move and seek better lands.

Yes. The sun was not the way it should be. But it seemed impossible to get rid of the ugly thing. Frustrated with the whole situation, Orion paused to think. Then, it occured to him. The solution was so simple! Why not make another? After all, the grey light was fairly weak, it should be easy to outshine. And it was somewhat far from the planet...

Thus, Orion flew in space where he gave birth to a new star. While the original, grey sun was still the biggest of the two spheres, this new orange sun was much warmer, brighter and especially closer to the planet. Orion rejoiced as all forms of life prospered thanks to his newest creation.

Dazzling Kazko, as the god named itself, came onto the newly birthed world. Kazko spanned the whole of it, investigating even the most insignificant nooks and crevices. Disappointed, Kazko had come to the conclusion that this little mud ball was dreadfully boring. In his wisdom and with little regard or care for future ramifications, Kazko Sundered the lands. Filling the gaping wounds in the earth with a great wealth of minerals, Kazko forced the fractured world back together. The World had become heavy with bounty of Kazko, but not without consequence. The magnitude of Kazko's personal gift to this world was as such that returning the shape of the world to what was was beyond even one so magnificent as Kazko. Rashin sighed as he looked down upon the beasts created by his fellows. Honestly, the only creatures with promise were the great hounds in his likeness - but they could be improved.

Rashin wove into his body many creatures - rodents, horses, deer, felines, birds and insects - but saved the best of his creation for last. He created the brothers, the Wolf and the Coyote and the Fox. Wolf was strongest of all, and Coyote was fastest of all, and Fox was most cunning of all; they all had some of Rashin in them, and they all needed to hunt. They worked together, throughout Rashin's body.

Coyote would find prey, for he ran swiftly without hungering or thirsting, and his eyes were keen. Fox would trick prey, for he was a cunning trapper who could turn prey against themselves. Wolf would kill prey, for his strength was manifold and his savage fury was fiercest of all.

Rashin had many favored children - the lion, who was proud and regal; the otter, who hunted in his blood cheerfully; the jaguar, who was stealthy and savage; the eagle, who had keen eyes and keen talons; and many others besides.

But closest to his heart were Coyote and Fox and Wolf.

In her eyes there was suddenly this world, this place, where energies buzzed from all corners of the cosmos. It was growing, with a large matter of creatures and changes taking place. But when the creatures died, when their lives fell the lifeless corpses sat stagnant and weak. This world needed to refresh itself. Ora took from herself a mess of energy, and created a new life to live and destroy and recreate. Living things were modeled off of others to feed from the old, to renew. Indefinately small creatures to eat the smallest of resources and bring the the weakest giants. Plants to grow quickly and overtake anything too weak to survive. Strange water-logged creatures sucked excess energy from anything that came too close. And small birds filled the skies, picking clean what remains they could find. And it was good.

Ora rested now herself on a muddy excess where life bloomed. Where she lay the ground eroded and creatures bubbled into a tar, the land stagnating but the energy fresh for use.

Lord Virgo causes a mystic rain from his magical powers to concentrate on one part of the world, where it down poured, causing a great canyon to form. Within it was a vast area filled with water created from pure magic. Insects and lower life forms, would drink from the water in the canyon and become as wise and intelligent as dolphins. Meanwhile, Virgo decided to create a unique, special creature to amuse himself, and began experimenting with making tiny creatures. Massive forests of flowers spread throughout the Canyon.

Orion visited the world once again. He noticed that some of the landmasses he had raised from the ocean were swarming with life. He decided not to interfere with the works of others and to continue his journey. While on his way to the other side of the planet, Orion came upon a few continents that were left unspoiled, and thus were covered entirely by deserts. He was pleased, until he realized they were also devoid of life. Only bacteria chose to make it their home. Perhaps he had it wrong? Perhaps this was too dry?

In order to correct his mistake, Orion sought the help of the clouds. But they refused to answer his call, as even they perfered to stay away from this place. The Sun God was angry at first, but he quickly calmed down. As with the previous situation, he would find a solution. And he did. He took some of his divine essence and gave life to many species that were accustomed to this harsh environment and could live with much less water: cacti, wildflowers, shrubs, bats, hawks, herons, ferrets, lizards, snakes, spiders and much more. He then dug in the ground to create oases, hot springs and the like.

As Orion filled the desert plain with life, he attracted the attention of a nameless being of pure heat. The being gazed upon his work and nodded mentally.

"-Yes, some powers are at work here. Powers other than me."

Feeling the need to communicate but not knowing how to do so, he just acted. At the North border of the desert, a swirling firestorm appeared, circling around a large portion of land but quickly shortening its radius, waves of heat leveling the thin sand while a vitrified ground was left behind for the dunes to cover.

When it disappeared, a narrow cone, nearly 500m tall for only 20m wide, of pure glass stood among the dunes, surrounded by scorched lands of basalt. The tower cough the burning light of the Sun, as well as the gloomy light of the Star and reflected them in all direction, its floors breaking appart the light spectrum and each sending a ray of a specific colour in one direction.

Not one to be left bekind in creation, Yakru made several animals of his own. He made large aquatic reptiles, crocodiles, that would use cunning and trickery in order to capture their prey. In reed beds and flood plains, he made a multitude of venomous snakes and constrictors.

He also snatched some wolves and made them his own. From these, he created jackals and hyenas. The hyenas he was particularly fond of, for their chittering laughter at the most inappropriate of things delighted him.

Yakru settled down in a nice, hot patch of sand and waited, listening.

    Malrion

Malrion watched as the others went about creation below. "None of them have got it just right. I will have to remedy this," he thought to himself. And so Malrion went down to the surface of the planet. There, he burrowed deep into the earth, forcing several mountain ranges up into existence.

Once that was done, Malrion shaped the disturbed land around the newly-created mountains into hills: some rugged and steep, other gently rolling. Looking down at what he'd done so far, something still wasn't right. And so Malrion returned to work: he dug out channels for several rivers, both above and below the surface of the earth. Taking this one step further, the Lord of Earth created a huge network of caves and tunnels under the continents. Some of these tunnels even linked to the ocean, thus being the source of some of the waters both above and below the surface.

And then he noticed the crystal tower. Pleased by it and the thought behind it, Malrion caused a mountain to grow under it, taller than any other so far.

"-I take it as an approval..."

The being looked at his creation as a mysterious force made the mountains rise under it, pushing the tower up to the cloud so that its light would reach a wider area.

Burning through the atmosphere, he flew around the tower, a blue flash reflected by the glass as he passed. Then he moved East, looking down at the animals and plants which crawled upon the rock, living and dying in the blink of an eye from his perspective while for them, centuries passed.

His “sudden” move had two purposes. The first, rather selfish, was to look closer to the Creation and to spot the beings he would take interest in for the next thousand years.

The second was to send a signal to those who were working here, as he hoped to communicate. Circling around a isolated forest, he sent several bursts of blue flames toward the clouds.

Great Kazko idly observed the other gods go about their godly ways. The glass tower momentarily caught Kazko's attention, what possible purpose could such a thing serve? Odder still when another of his fellows drove the monolith higher..

Kazko ran along the side of the structure, studying the reflection of his own illumination. Kazko dove down and studied the mountain base of the thing. On a whim Kazko weakened a side of the mountain until the tower began tilted to one side. Kazko left the the mountain be after achieving that and moved away to see the newly askew tower. Kazko waited afterward for the blue god to return, Kazko was highly interested in how it would react.

Rashin laughed as he danced across his body, watching the changes wrought upon it. Oh, what fun, what joy creation was!

But perhaps he could improve it yet again! He focused his will upon his back, and his fur grew proud and tall in a great patch across his body. Over his fractured bones, across his gently seeping blood, his fur sprang up and multiplied greatly, spreading darkness and light across his body. The Three Brothers walked in the shade of his fur, and the greatest patch spread across many bones and veins.

The 500m needle was tilting dangerously.
And the being didn't like it.

Already, his awakening spirit could foresee the consequences if the tower was to fall in a few years. Life would evolve and so would the minds. Mortals would gather around the masterpiece to admire it but wouldn't think about the danger.
    "-Such a thing...It can't happen !! I am responsible of this tower !!"

With a powerful roar, he hurled purple flames at the mountain, just under the tilting side of the tower. The burning plasma dug twenty tunnels, nothing but cylinders going down through Rashin's body until they reached the molten core. Pushed by gas and the tremendous energies at work, lava went up.

As it did, the fire god helped them to rose from the ground into bubbling pylons, using rings of fire to shape the melting rock, until it reached an angle were it would support the tower's side.

With its columns of polished black basalt, the tower was now more akin to a bridge leading to the sky than a tower...but it was still an inspiring sight.

Brilliant Kazko came to the blue god at his cry of outrage. The god's actions really were perplexing. Kazko lazily revolved in the air before the blue one; he didn't speak immediately, perhaps because he was unfamiliar with it. eventually though a high mincing voice emitted from Kazko.

...Your infatuation with such a meaningless thing is something I am lacking; until I confirmed that, I had concluded that those like me bore no difference from myself...

....I've noted that this difference isn't limited to you, at least one other sees some importance in the structure; meaning that you may not be an aberration...

..Why do you regard this structure, this tower as important? I really am curious to know...
