Problems on the Hippocampus
At the same moment the group touches down on the shore and the front wave makes your way to the jungle there are screams of horror from the clipper. The orc guards will start to snap out of their little wrestling match, and begin to come to, and gathering their weapons as if something addressed their minds.

Re: Orcland Border
Olaf looks back to the Hippocampus with irritation. What has happened? An accident? A mutiny? The sight of a pirate ship? Probably one of the later ones...not that it would matter if the pirates took notice of them. He hisses under his breath. "Quick. We can not allow the pirates to raise the alarm. We can check back on the ship later." He motions for the others to join him and heads into the jungle, trying to engage the Orcs.

Re: Orcland Border
Steady there, Olaf. We don't want to go charging blindly in, and you're on the noisy side. I'd like to suggest that the faster among us come around to cut them off. Then we can charge in.
With that, Canidale heads into the woods, at a route calculated to take him to the waiting orcs from an angle. Once he can see them, he stops.

Garen, quickly realizing where he was needed, decided to stay with Olaf and the other "noisy" members of the party. His bow at the ready, he waited for the signal from the scouting party.

It has Kip!
The moment the specialists were off the dinghy Aguella and Bae-lee had the tiny rowboat up and turned around. They were madly rowing the 100 or so feet that the ship was sitting. The Hippocampus was in deep, but safe waters, and looked really close. The illusion was still working for the 3 orcs, who were like a bunch of stooges as they tried to figure out what was happening.
Even though your group can see through the illusion it is still night, and no lights are on the deck of the Hippocampus. Something in dark robes is hovering about the main deck. Most of the crew lay unconscious, but a couple were screaming in utter terror. Including Zeishen, one of the nimble archer-sailors, "Help save us!! Dear Ancestors of the Heavens!!! This beast has the face of an octopus!!" The captain is among those not making a noise, and usually he was very loud.
Another sailor screams loudly, "Oh my god! It has Kip!"
The orcs are scrambling about, and finally one mutters to the others and begins to hurriedly head toward the woods, even though they have no idea what is going on, and have yet to see the dinghy that has landed. Those of you quiet ones moving on the orcs will be able to be nearby at this now.

Re: Orcland Border
"Then Hurry!" Olaf strains to suppress his urge to scream. "The longer we take our time with the guards, the more time that... thing will have to kill the crew." He stops for the time being but readies himself to charge in as soon as the scouts had circled the Orcs.

Surprise crosses Tark's face, closely followed by outrage. How were they going to get home now? He pulls out his spiked chain and moves into position, ready to charge into the orcs.

The Dinghy
Two of the orcs not retreating are completely surprised as your quiet ones sneak up on them. They stink of nasty ale, puke, and urine, and even look a little bruised up.
The other one will get away if not acted upon, the two drunk ones trying to figure out the illusion can almost be coup-de-grace'd. The third one leaving to sound an alarm needs to be acted upon for he seems quite determined to leave.
Zeishen shouts out again, as the sounds of Aguella and Bae-lee splashing oars in the water finally draws the attention of the dumbfounded orcs. "It's gone now and took Kip!"
The orcs are about to speak out as they spot the dinghy.

Aiko
Aiko snuck alongside those that weren't in heavy armour, angry now that the ship was being attacked and nothing could be done for it. All the group had was surprise – take that and the entire mission was completely compromised. Her eyes narrowed vindictively at the intoxicated orc trying to do exactly that.
“Runner,” the girl warned, herself already notching an arrow. She fired straight at the fleeing orc's hamstring.

The Illithid
Canidale executes the fleeing orc with a shot in the back. It squeals out and crashes into the brush. Aiko's shot ensures his death. This is all at the point the other two orcs are coming around to what is going on in the dinghy. They are so excited they miss the fact the third guy has been dropped.
Vladis moved in and can even karate-chop him to finish him for good, but this orc is quite gone.
Olaf and Tark burst onto the excited orcs like a bunch of noisy bells, and scare the crap out of them right before knocking them unconscious. In seconds the orcs are taken care of and now the only sounds are groans on the ship of recovering men.
"What was that?" The Captain can be heard muttering.
{OOC- Not always do we need to go to initiative, especially if you PCs are in control of a situation. Though... now we do!}
Suddenly, the strangest most evil creature any of you have ever seen appears above Olaf and Tark. It wears thick black robes, and appears to be humanoid, but instead has a most alien face! This beast has Kip in it's arms, and the face of an octopus, the tentacles are wrapped about Kip's face. And when it sees the two armored warriors it drops Kip bloody gape-mouthed upon them and blasts them with a mind numbing aura. Olaf is stunned, but Tark stands his ground. The illithid is about 10 feet hovering above Tark and stunned Olaf.
On the ship the Captain groans, "Ah crap! An illithid?"
This does get the illithid's attention.

Illithid's Mind Attack
Tark bravely defends Olaf, and steps up and swings his chain into the monster above him. It is surprised by the attack, but seems more concerned about the ship and recovering Captain. {d:10}
Aiko sees the beast above her friends and fires a shot, but misses badly!
It is a scary looking thing!
Garen's spell doesn't phase the illithid, and it doesn't even bother to look at the bard when he tries to confuse it.
Vladis leaps to the aid of his fallen ally and gets high into the air, however he can't quite hurt the illithid and his blow glances off the monster's leg harmlessly.
Canidale's shot is good, and he sinks his arrow into the monster's chest. {d:9} It howls in pain a strange vocal noise.
The crew of the Hippocampus is mostly dazed, but those who aren't are now lining up their bows under Jim's orders to fire. All the crew's shots miss, and whizz over Vladis and Tark's head dangerously close.
Olaf is still stunned near the protective Vladis and Tark.
The illithid mind blasts Tark and Vladis, and this time Tark can't withstand the force of the beast's mind. Both men are stunned. It then shifts out of sight! Garen knows it has gone to the astral or ethereal or something planar.

Captain Jim to the Rescue
The group on the beach is on total defense aware that the monster could reappear at any moment.
It does: upon the ship. The Captain shrieks loudly, but by the fact that he is still cursing, he survived the mind-numbing attack. From your shadowy view from shore he critically stabs it with his long sword, and then hacked it again pretty good. Aguella and Bae-lee had brought short bows and daggers to shore in the dinghy had a pretty good view of the hovering illithid as it had appeared above the captain and failed to stun him.
The two rowers fire, Aguella is able to minorly hurt the illithid.
It looks badly hurt, and doesn't seem too keen on giving the captain another chance to hit it. Those of you on shore can try to react to it if you want. It is technically not a far shot, it is shadowy, so a minor penalty applies.
{OOC- With Captain Jim gone soon, your encounter DC will go down. Still be wary with your PCs. You will have one round to kill this illithid before it will attempt to leave. Captain Jim's critical gave you a chance.}

Re: Orcland Border
Canidale sees the Illithid appear over the ship. Whispering a prayer to Herne, he hopes to bring down this fleshy abomination before it wracks another mind. The fiend had no rightful place on this thing, and was against all things natural. Nature itself demanded that the monster die.
Drawing his bow back as far as it will go, Canidale attempts to enact nature's will as he fires one shot, and then another.

Aiko's Shot!
Canidale and Garen miss the difficult shot, but Aiko hits! {OOC- Finally a decent DM roll.}
The illithid was hurt bad from the captain's blows and Aguella's arrow. Aiko's shot knocks it down, and the captain quickly stabs it to insure it dies.
"GO!" The Captain shouts to you on shore, he begins to help Bae-lee, Aguella, and the dinghy up."Remember! Here at NOON!"
Once the two crewmen and dinghy are hoisted up the Captain gets the Hippocampus out there!
The stunned ones will wake up as the Hippocampus pulls away into the night.
