Team Rin: The Chuunin Exams

A vein protruded on Rin's head and her face turned to a mask of anger. "You little damn cry baby!" Rin continued to quickly smack her hands together in a series of short seals. "We'll certainly see about that!" Once again a dragon made of lightning tore itself free of the air in front of Rin and roared its destructive path toward another tentacle.

Hibiki

Hibiki snorts at Sasuke's comment, "Ass." The crazed genin waves at his sensei to try and grab her attention, "Rin! Are you watching at all? Geez, I'm about to blow this tentacle out of the water!"

Inside Hibiki's Mind

Wrath and Lust fall through a few thousand feet of empty space to land on the metaphysical ground. The other Sins take out two more metal chairs and unfold them for their new guests.

"Your missing the big scene! Hibiki's about to use the Rasengan!"

"Pass the popcorn...please?"

Ship

Hibiki jumps a little getting ready for his super-cool new move. He also practices his vocal range, making sure it will be loud and ferocious. "Alright, let's do this!" The electrical jutsu of Sasuke destroys the tentacle in front of him, so the genin looks across the ship at the other.

"You want this? Oh, I think he wants it." Hibiki skips along the ship's deck and stops a few inches from the tentacle. "EAT THIS!" The crazed genin thrusts the highly concentrated chakra into the sea-borne appendage. The Rasengan digs deep into the tentacles thin flesh; the maelstrom of raw power drills right into the creature causing it to rise dozens of feet into the air. The tentacle drops lifeless back onto the deck.

"Alright! See that? Anyone? Did you see that?"

The entire ship rocks as each tentacle moves closer to the mast. Tentacles lash out at Wrath and Lust, knocking them around and causing both clones to disappear in puffs of smoke. Again Kuromaru and Matsuo are targeted by tentacles, but luckily Matsuo is faster than your briny foe and dodges the blow. Kuromaru isn't so quick and gets a tentacle to the face. Shikakei is targeted by a tentacle as well, which knocks the genin for a loop. The tentacle that Rin and Sasuke had blasted smashes into the ship's mast two more times, cracking the wood. The final tentacle moves within striking distance of the mast and pummels the wooden structure without mercy.

Sasuke again copies Rin's Lightning Dragon Blast but aims it at Tentacle #6 instead. The blast sends the giant appendage back down into the ocean. Inoki and Suishi both attempt to get up but fall and almost slide again. Luckily, Takanu and Yotei grab their companion's hands and keep them from falling. Shikakei thinks about their situation, then shouts out. "It alternates between pulling the ship left and right! Get ready to lean in one..two..Now!" She then leans to the right as the right side of the ship dips. Her lean successfully allows her to keep her balance.

Inoki and Suishi both throw shuriken at the fifth tentacle. The little blades cause the giant tentacle to slide off the ship and back into the ocean. Chouzen slips and falls, but before he falls into the ocean he pulls his arms and legs in then begins spinning like a car wheel. "Meat Tank!" The giant Akimichi charges across the ship and smashes into two tentacles on the way. Unfortunately, he's now looking like he's about to throw up.

Hibiki's Rasengan and Rin's Lightning Dragon cause two more tentacles to slide off the deck and back into the ocean. The second tentacle to appear seems to be moving very slowly and is hanging on by a thread.

Runi hits Tentacle #3 for 16. Chouzen hits Tentacles #2 and 6 with Nikudan Sensha for 19 apiece. Suishi and Inoki hit Tentacle #5 for 3 and 4 respectively, killing it. Sasuke rolls 30 on his Lightning Dragon Blast, dealing 45 damage to Tentacle #6.

Shikakei uses Plan, speeded up by her Quickened Plan feat, and rolls a 17 on the Intellgience Check. Everyone gets a +2 bonus to Balance checks for 2 rounds.

This time when ship swayed Matsuo was ready and managed keep his balance. He used kinobori, as his senseit suggested to stabilize his footing. Quickly glancing around he picked the weakest looking tentacle and fired a blast of chakra in it's direction - blowing it out of the ship.

Matsuo's attack causes the other tentacles to break away. Six seconds pass and none of them return. The other genin relax a bit and wander collect in front of the mast while Takanu investigates the damage. He looks toward Rin and Runi. "Serviceable." But Runi shakes her head while Kuromaru growls at the sea. "Something's still down there. We should get ready."

Suppressing her sharingan and enhanced speed for the moment Rin looks around the deck, the mast was still intact although the deck of the boat could be in better shape. "Damn giant squid." Quickly flicking open a side compartment Rin pulled out a vial and drunk it's contents.

"Hey there Kuro-chan." Rin said as the dog padded over to her. She held her hands over the dogs various bruises. "Don't have time for a check up, this'll keep you going." A flash of green chakra saw the dogs wounds begin to heal as she used the second rank healing technique.

Hibiki

"More you say? We'll protect the mast! A pirate ship is nothing without its mast..." Hibiki claps his hands together and focuses more chakra into his body; a purple aura surrounds the genin as he performs Kage Bunshin no Jutsu. Six of the seven clones pop up around the mast while Pride appears alongside Hibiki.

Lust, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, and Greed all form chakra scalpels of different colors and draw their own kodachis. They form a tight link around the mast of the ship waiting for any sign of their marine enemy. Hibiki forces Pride to hold out his hand, and the psychotic genin forms a Rasengan in his clone's open hand. Hibiki, afterwords, keeps his purple chakra scalpel ready for the next attack. All eight Hibikis wait patiently with the sound of Pride's spinning Rasengan creating a low-tone humming noise in the air.

The sea and boat calm down. Runi calls for defensive positions while Takanu call Rin over to help him defend the western side of the mast. Seconds pass and nothing happens. The boat rocks slightly, but it's soon shaken violently as a pair of massive white limbs with little red suction cups and hundreds of razor-sharp spines slam into the edge of the boat. The wood around the new tentacles are broken and cracked, and you feel the boat get lower in the ocean as the squid seems to try and pull itself up onto the top of the boat.

Yuu

Noting the damaged terrain around the claws, Yuu turned towards the tentacles that returned, one of which looked significantly damaged. Gripping his sheath with one hand and his hilt with the other, Yuu sprang forwards quickly, his sword coming out of its sheath as he reached the beast, slashing deeply into its flesh. Kuromaru, unable to charge at full speed directly at the beast, followed along with a slashing strike from his claws. Yuu calls out:

Releasing the flow of chakra back around her body again her Sharingan active once again. The Chakra Scalpel flowing around her hand began to crackle with electric power as she made the half-seals with her left hand. Now to soften up my target before I move in! A second series of hand-seals flowed created yet another lightning dragon that tore itself free and roared its destructive path to its target.

Hibiki

Hibiki stays back from the fighting and hugs close to the mast directing the action of his clones. Inside his head, he imagined himself as captain of a ship moving little miniatures that represented his men on a map. "Okay everyone got the plan?" There's a collective yes as each clone assumes their position. The genin then draws his kodachi and creates a defensive posture.

Pride

The Sin tilts his head to look at the Rasengan from a different angle. He then stares at the claw on the ship's side and smirks. "Okay Hibiki, I gotcha." Pride closes his eyes and finds himself right in front of the barnacle appendage. "WATCH THIS!"

Clones

Every other clone crosses their kodachi with their chakra scalpel and moves closer to each tentacle. They move just close enough to set up for their next onslaught of attacks.

Matsuo's palm attack findsitself ineffective at shoving the giant tentacle. The arm's gigantic size coupled with it's sheer weight proves an insurmountable obstacle. Yuu's Iaido attack and Kuromaru's bites prove equally ineffective at stopping the massive creature. Even Hibiki's shadow clones and Rasengan are literally squashed by it's steady advance. Fortunately, Rin's Lightning Dragon Blast proves extremely effective against the creature's body.

Sasuke looks back toward Hibiki, then grips his right hand as he forms a Chidori. "Come on! Is that all you've got?!" Inoki and Shikakei throw four shuriken at one tentacle, which hardly harms the massive limb anyway. Takanu follows up the shuriken barrage with a dragon made of pure flame. The dragon attacks both of the northern tentacles and the northern claw, but doesn't seem to do any good.

Runi charges downward and delivers a flying kick to one of the tentacles which is quickly followed by a shuriken from Suishi. Chouzen readies himself to take on the northern claw if it comes any closer. Yotei pulls forth a scroll and summons a massive minotaur made of ink. It carries a large tree limb also made of ink, and proves an effective wall against the eighth tentacle.

The tentacles move forward and both claws squish every shadow clone sent to stop them. Even as Pride raises his Rasengan to damage the claw, the creature just pushes through the pain and crushes him like a pancake. The other tentacles lash out, but Runi dodges the attack. The third tentacle slaps one of the Hibiki clones and pops it, while the first tentacle fails to hit either clone sent to bother it. The eighth tentacle strikes the ink creature, but the minotaur remains standing.

Takanu uses Great Dragon Projectile on Tentacle #3 then bounces it to Claw #1 and Tentacle #1. He deals 15 to Tentacle #3 which is halved by the creature's natural fire resistance. He then deals 7 to Tentacle #1 and Claw #1, which are also halved.

Tentacle #3 hits Hibiki 5, dealing 11 and popping the clone. Tentacle #4 and #1 fail to hit Runi or Hibiki 3 respectively.

Yuu

Angered at his inability to effectively attack his target, Yuu bares his sharpened teeth and yells, stepping closer to the tentacle and slashing at it for all he's worth.

"Come on, Kuromaru, it's unagi for dinner tonight!"

As if to emphasize his point, he bites at the tentacle with his sharpened fangs.

Kuromaru lets out a growl and bites and claws at the tentacle as well.

Matsuo

What the hell?! - Matsuo's eyes go wide as he sees the ink creature appear, but the cracks of broken wood sounding as the tentacles continue to rampage on the deck remind him that he has no time to gawk. Quickly looking through his options, he finally decided on straightforward approach. He disappears for a moment, before appearing at the side of Runi and one of Hibiki's still standing clones. With speed matching that of his sensei he manages to touch the tentacle for a short moment... short, but long enough to pass his chakra into the creature.

The crazed genin turns his head to Sasuke, "I have plenty more where that came from." Hibiki whistles, "Wrath and all of you left! Make sure you slow the tentacles down; don't let them near this mast!" The leaf-nin shuts his eyes and concentrates his chakra into another Rasengan. "I probably have two to three of these left inside me..." Hibiki mutters to himself.

Sasuke grins at Hibiki. He says something, but the sound is drowned out by the combined noise of his Chidori and Hibiki's Rasengan. Runi yells, but her words are also drowned out by the noise. Sasuke turns toward one of the claws and unleashes his speed. The brilliant white energy blade pierces through the creature's tentacle. The genin struggles as he tries to keep the claw from moving forward, but the chakra surrounding his attacking hand fades and he's left only pushing against it's soft flesh. "Damnit..!"

Runi dashes forward and gives a flying leap that knocks the injured claw off into the ocean. Yotei draws a kunai and throws herself into battle to prevent the the fourth tentacle from getting closer. Her minotaur simply smashes the eighth tentacle with it's massive log-turned-club. Inoki, Shikakei and Tanaku also draw kunai and position themselves as human shields against the incoming tentacle. Chouzen just stands there in a mix of terror and fear.

The squid releases it's grip on the now heavily damaged ship. Everyone feels it's killing intent disappear as it swims away from the ship in hopes of putting as much distance between it and the ninja as possible.

Yuu

His teeth fading back to normal and the rest of his body becoming less bestial, Yuu cleans his sword off on a spare piece of cloth and sheaths it, breathing heavily but uninjured. Kuromaru poofs back into dog form, grinning with his tongue lolling out of his mouth.

"Whoosh! Looks like dinner got away, haha. Boy I hope another one of those doesn't attack today. Dunno how much more I've got in me."

Standing, Yuu looks around and waits to see if his sensei had any orders.

Matsuo

- Whew, I'm glad that one is over... - Matsuo sighs and after looking the area for a few second to make sure, he turns his Byakugan off and sits down on the deck to rest.

Interesting tehnique... - he mutters onder his breath looking again at Yotei's ink-minotaur.

Hibiki

Hibiki keeps his Rasengan floating above his palm and goes over to the nearest ledge. "Awww, what a waste of a really cool move..." The genin calls over Wrath to discuss something. Wrath eventually makes his way across meet Hibiki, but Hibiki only greets him with a sinister smile.

Before Wrath can make his escape, Hibiki unleashes his Rasengan on the poor sap.

Uchiha Rin

Hacking at the retreating tentacle Rin's second charge shot through the beast. The final charge of Eiseidenka would go wasted as she let it disperse. "I haven't needed to use that much chakra in a single fight for almost a month." Rin would have exhausted her previous supply of chakra at this point and it was now that it became obvious to her. I'm making progress too, no need to worry too much about my genin surpassing me. "Chidori, impressive, a sponge for chakra though." Looking over the genin strewn about the deck Rin sighed a little but quickly laughed shyly with a weak smile. Never easy.

"Suishi-chan, come inside and help me set up a quick medical station." Setting up the station with Suishi would be easy enough, forcing the genin to submit to treatment and then a full evenings rest while they were still antsy would be hard.

Sasuke

The genin looks toward Hibiki and grins. "Guess I'm still better than you, huh?" He clenches his Chidori fist, then gives Hibiki a thumbs up. "Here's hoping you don't fall too far behind!"

Suishi

The young boy nods, following behind Rin and practices his Mystical Palm technique as well as the First Rank of Iryou ninjutsu when injuries are more serious than normal. Rin can tell he hadn't exerted himself in that attack as his energy reserves are quite high.

Injuries

Kuromaru and Matsuo are the most injured. But aside from them, the boat is the worst off out of everyone. Shikakei hangs out inside the medical tent, along with Tanaku. Runi seems busy forcing any genin not resting to burn off their excess energy by doing one-handed push-ups. Shikakei looks toward Rin and Tanaku. "... You know. Squid are usually docile. Wonder why that one attacked us, eh?" Tanaku looks toward Shikakei, then toward Rin again. "Curious."

Hibiki

Hibiki is busy watching Wrath fly through the air while Sasuke tries to talk to him. "Huh, you say something Sasuke-kun?" The genin turns back to see the rest of Wrath's flight, but sadly the kage bunshin poofs mid air before he could land in the water. "Awww..."

Sasuke

Sasuke just shrugged. Stupid people would always be stupid, and there was nothing he could do about it. Instead, he headed over to Yuu. He looked at the other ninja's sword for awhile. Then finally asks, "I see you got a sword. Why do you use that when you can use ninjutsu instead? Seems like a waste of energy."

Uchiha Rin

"Smart kid. Yeah, they don't attack unless provoked." Slightly annoyed at the inaction of Suishi during the fight Rin was close once or twice to lecturing him about it. It isn't my place to lecture him. "The larger they are, the further down they live." Looking up from what she was doing Rin made eye contact with Tanaku. "I'm curious. Did I live up to my reputation?" Rin despised her reputation although none around her would ever guess it, only her genin who knew her enough. She hated the name Chimera and wanted nothing to do with that part of her life.
