Belthen
Looking at the map once again for reference, Belthen motions to the others for attention, "Looks like we should be close to where the hammer was dropped."
Upon seeing the chair Belthen moves forward slightly and looks around.

Asharta
"A... chair? In the middle of the forest here? This place gets odder by the moment.." she grumbled as she moved past Belthen and into the clearing. The genasi does try to keep a keen watch of the surroundings for anything /else/ that's out of the ordinary, however.

After wasting a moment trying to convince the nymph to take a closer look, Vopiscus throws up his hands in silent disgust and walks over to the chair. Subtlety isn't exactly his strong point.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
The chair is of surprisingly sturdy construction, even though the remaining wood from the oak has long since rotted away. Around the clearing are a lot of footprints.
[Nature to recognise the footprints, perception to reveal more about them]

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
Attah, you recognise the tracks as goblin footprints. Following them around, there seem to be only two sets, and they seem to be scuffling. Near the path, the footprints get more amicable and they separate, one set heading East, the other North.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
Asharta
Speaking briefly with Attah, she learns the direction of the scattered tracks and the nature of those that made them. Glaring off into the distance, the genasi's features flared briefly with frustration before she turned and gave that inoffensive chair a vicious kick.
"So. The trail splits again. Goblins." she almost growled, spitting out that last word. "North to the river, then, or east back deeper into the forest?"
Spoiler
I know, I know... along with 'Never pick up a duck in the dungeon', and 'Don't kick the sink', we'll probably have to add something about chairs in there, too.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
The chair looks to be completely ordinary, carved as it lay from a fallen oak tree.
Asharta's kick does nothing to disturb the sturdy chair.

Belthen
Belthen scratches his chin in thought as Asharta goes over the path of the tracks. "It may be best if we follow the tracks east. If the goblin heading north crossed the river it may take a while to find his tracks on the other side."
Belthen looks to his companions, "Anyone have another idea?"

"I'm willing to agree with that, though these twists and turns are already troubling my mind." ... She gives the chair sitting there one more annoyed glance before checking out how far she's able to see down either of the paths ahead.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
Technically, you cannot use Hand of Fate until level four. Even though you obtain it as a class ability, you still need to be the same level or higher as the ritual to cast it.
The detect magic however does reveal the chair to be full of necrotic energy. You get the sense that the thing draws life from anything that sits in it.Last edited by Jokes; 2009-05-04 at 07:16 AM.

After a moment of contemplation, Attah frowns “I don’t know what role it has played in all this, but there is death in that chair”
He strides back to the path to join the others “East seems as good a choice as any, we must trust in the gods to guide us”

"Hah! Well, good thing you had a bit more success then I did, in divining the purpose behind that thing." she nodded to Attah.
To Vopiscus, as the other Deva closely examined the chair, the still-frustrated swordmage simply shrugged. "Who knows? It's no use to us now. Maybe we can toss a goblin in it later on."Board-game and XCOM nerd. Furry. Handle with care.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
You decide to head east. You notice a path on your right that heads south, presumably back toward the way you came.
[If you continue east]
The road begins to turn north and another path opens up on your right, heading east, the path you are on continues north.
SpoilerIf you want to go south, suggest it, but I'm presuming you'd rather continue than go back the way you came

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
Vopiscus' subconscious memories lead him to the very edge of the road, where soft ground meet hard road. He sees a small indent in the ground. While not normally interesting, the indentations repeat every few metres. The appear to be going east. You think these are not goblin footprints, they seem to be a toe of a much larger creature.
(having found the tracks, following them reduces the DC to within PP range)

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
Vopiscus stares at the footprints with a noncommittal frown. He's not really a woodsman, and the nymph was never useful for that sort of day-to-day practical stuff.
Well, I say we follow these regardless. Worse comes to worst, we just find our way back here and continue on our way.

Asharta eyed the supposed footprints, and then her companion, curiously. "Tracks, you say?" the genasi asked, kneeling to examine the soft dirt from a closer perspective.
"I'll have to take your word on it from here. I can't tell anything from these. But.." she paused. "They're our only lead so far, so let's see where they go."Board-game and XCOM nerd. Furry. Handle with care.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
Belthen nods at the others as they suggest heading further east.
"This forest appears to be a maze of paths and trees. As long as we keep our bearings though we should be all right. Heading north should take us closer to the river, but I would rather find any traces of the goblin who did not immediately cross it."

Awesome: The toe seems humanoid, but much larger, though not as big as a giants. It may be an ogre or a troll.
You follow the tracks to another intersection, where the tracks start heading south.

Re: [4e] Fighting Fantasy Fun [IC]
You follow the tracks south. As you do, you notice they veer off the road completely for about fifty metres, where they become somewhat erratic, turning this way and that. Several rocks are scattered in the mud. You turn around to see a crudely built tree house on the opposite side of the road, hidden slightly amidst the trees. A rope hangs down, which presumably leads up the the strange dwelling.
